What is Authentic Learning?

The purpose of Authentic Learning is to create a learning environment where


students understand why they are learning the content, how it relates to life
outside the classroom, and how to appropriately apply the learned content.
5 Components of Authentic Learning

● Learning activities relate to the real world


● Tasks are applicable and of interest to students
● Students are encouraged to think critically, organize, and evaluate data
● Students produce a product or share results with a real audience
● Students have an understanding of why the material is being learned
How Does This Method Benefit Our Students?

● Increased interest and participation


● Increased problem solving and critical thinking skills
● Provides meaning for students
● Provides skills and products students will carry with
them into adult life

● History: Create a business or Current events debate
● Science: Create an invention for everyday life
