Ideal Business School:

 A good initiative that should be taken involves elimination of summer

vacations. There should be no concept of summer vacations for graduate

level studies as students are mature enough to deal with weather

intensity. Instead those 3 months should be utilized to arrange:

Compulsory workshops on MS Office, SPSS, Adobe Photoshop and other

latest techniques that are being utilized heavily at industry side

 Giving real life projects that involve frequent visits to companies for

project accomplishment. Nature of projects should be different from

typical semester end projects. University should build contacts with

different reputed organizations and ask students to solve their problems

that may relate to sales, operations, human resource or any other

management related issue.

 At end of every semester, every teacher should be asked to rate each and

every student on required industry skills besides subject knowledge. That

may include Communication, Leadership, Team player, Problem solving,

Critical thinking, and Time management, Attitude towards learning and

Innovation. In order to make it possible, student teacher ratio may not

exceed 20 in order to ensure complete focus of teacher on each student

and provide opportunity to both. As teacher will be in a better position to

understand his/her student and student will be in a position to get trained

effectively.

 Increase the credit hours, expend equal time on knowledge gaining and

its application. That will enhance ability to not only analyze the problem

but also solve it. For example, in marketing, teacher has taught different

types of promotion, it would be better to give them a practical task of

promoting a new offering within limited budget.

 Quality intake is a major step that should be taken immediately. Increase

the merit to at least 60%. And then raise the entry test difficulty level

that should effectively gauge the knowledge and cognitive abilities of

students. It should be taken seriously, as in my time, clearing the entry

test was literally a piece of cake for me. It should be made more

challenging so that this tool should act as gatekeeper and filer out the

candidates with skills and knowledge below threshold level. Interviewing

process should be made more formal, it should serve as a tool to detect

all areas of improvement, later on recommendations should be given

upon the average score and teaching methodology should be designed

accordingly.
 There should be more reliance on visiting faculty from industry, who will

give provide practical exposure to their students. At time of hiring,

contract should be made on terms that s/he will arrange field visits to

organization where h/she has been employed. Assignments related to real

issues, and sharing of information (not confidential) to solve those

problems should also be provided to gain practical exposure in true sense.

 Institutes should increase the networking opportunity to their students by

arranging discussion sessions, seminars, workshops, field visits and guest

speaker sessions.

 At start of program, interest of every student should be noted and a

group of 4 to 5 should be made sharing similar interests. Then, according

to their interest, each group should be associated with a particular

organization, they will be supposed to complete projects and assignments

requiring field visits by appointing that particular organization as their

client. A full 2 to 3 year time frame will give enough opportunity to each

group member to find place in that organization by providing feasible

solution to their problems. Attendance system should be eliminated as

such professional course should not be taught in strict and traditional

way.
 Ties with corporate side should be made strongly in order to get funds as

all successful institutes are funded by MNCs as companies trust on their

output in from of professionals. Eliminate courses and revise the road

map, many courses in BBA and MBA program are too similar that teaching

them separately is total wastage of time. There should be joint sessions of

different course teachers whose courses are interlinked and

interdependent upon each other. Like there is interdependence between

Research and Statistics, so a joint session of both courses will give a

holistic view to understand and clear the concepts. Revise the assessment

criteria basing it 50% upon projects and practice based assignments,

while rest 50% should be based upon written examination and quizzes.

 Lecture should be based upon teaching through visuals, through videos,

visual aids etc. as research has proved that visual ads help students in a

better way to understand the concepts as compared to traditional lecture

delivery process.

 In order to enhance the entrepreneurial skills, at start of degree program,

group of 3 to 4 should be made, they should be asked to submit an idea,

then within limited budget group should be asked to test the feasibility of

that idea with in time period of one year. Every group should be asked to

spend specific number of hours per week upon that project and submit

project progress report on monthly basis.

 There should be some basic knowledge related to IT, as today is the world

of technology, last semester should be spent teaching basics of IT and

policy making Law. Business Law being taught in semester is more based

upon simple “Ratta”.

 Increase the quantitative content in syllabus to enhance the ability of

students in dealing with numbers.

 Increase case study based learning to enhance the analytical skills. Cases

should be compulsory part of course outline of every teacher.

 Teachers should be encouraged to write local case studies and then use

them in their class discussions in order to enhance local industry

knowledge.

 Burden upon teachers should be reduced and they should be given more

time doing research that has an impact in practical world. Focus should be

upon hiring experienced industry professionals instead of PhDs.

 Teachers’ evaluation criteria should be revised. Evaluating the faculty

upon suggestions of students will not serve the purpose until they have
been groomed in a professional manner. As, most of the times, this

practice is not taken seriously by students.

 Revise the subjects being offered as “Majors”, like in marketing , Major

offered as “Service marketing” should be replaced by “pricing” that is

more practically implementable. In human resource, “IHRM” should be

replaced by “HRIS” or “Compensation”. In finance, “Management of

Financial Institutions” should be replaced with “Analysis of financial

statements”

 Encourage impact based research instead of academic research at least at

graduation level. Eliminate the option of thesis and students should be

directed to do industry projects to gain exposure of real world.

 When students are in final semester, they should be offered a part time

job with in university premises to gain some work experience. Like, some

should be appointed as librarian assistant, some as Lab assistant,

research assistant, teaching assistant, some should be given

administrative tasks. In that way, students will get opportunity to

understand the workplace environment more clearly.

 “Ethics” being taught in BBA should contain content related to our Hadith

and sayings of Prophet (PBUH) and their way of dealing with business

problems.
 Encourage the lectures from foreign highly qualified faculty through

online. Before introducing any new subject, first, Faculty should be

trained regarding how to teach that particular course, how to design

practice based assignments etc.

 There should be a forum, where 80 percent of members should belong to

industry while 20 percent from academic side. Main responsibility of the

forum will include designing and continuously revising the curriculum to

maintain the linkage with latest industry requirements.

 It should be made compulsory to every student to avail the membership

of any club or society within or outside the campus. Active participation in

volunteer activities should also be graded to encourage the students

becoming more social in nature.

 Last semester of BBA and MBA program should be fully based upon

practical training divided into different modules. University should arrange

extensive field visits in form of groups to different organizations on basis

of its own reference where students will be supposed to do practical tasks

and complete their assignments and projects at workplace instead of

campus.
 Per semester, at least one certified activity should be made compulsory

for each student in order to clear out the semester.

 Psychological content should be added that can change the attitude of

graduates and tailor it according to workplace environment.

 There should be strict and formal dress code not only for students but

also for faculty, such environment will develop the attitude of graduates.

 Students who earn GPA greater than 3.5 should be allowed to get

registered with more Major subjects without any restriction.

 Fight against grade inflation. Earning a grade must be made really

challenging for any student.

 Offer alternatives to four year degree program, keep it two years where

one year should be based upon course work, where evaluation should be

made 50 percent upon written examination and quizzes, and 50 percent

upon practical tasks and real world projects. Second last semester should

be wholly evaluated upon projects without any written examination

whereas, last semester should be reserved for practical training in any

organization as trainee or internee.

 Abolish student evaluations being that are being used by students cruelly

for their personal grudges against teachers, particularly those who have

given tough time during the semester.

 Parents are major stakeholders so progress report per semester should be

directly discussed one to one by parents to keep them informed.

 Train the grads in technical report writing skill in order to improve written

communication.

 Limit the teachers that they cannot give A grade to more than 5 percent

of students in class. And B+ to additional 15 percent of the class. Grades

should be made a real challenge for students, not a piece of cake.

 All lecture, course content, cases, slides should be readily available online

for students from which students may directly down load them, lecture

delivery time should be spent discussing real world problems, analysis

and solution of case studies and relevant practical examples to that

particular topic.

 Text books should only be used to get familiar with practically relevant

terminologies and building body of knowledge by clarifying the concepts.

Students should be asked to self-read the book and discuss any problem
in the class. Teacher should not be made responsible for teaching text

books in class.
