II. Narrative Report

Last September 14, 2019 a seminar was held at Davao Association of
Catholic Schools of Catholic Schools, Inc. (DACS) in partnership with
Ephesians Publishing entitled “Seminar-Workshop on Effective Strategies
for 21st Century Learners Across the Curriculum”.

As I arrived in the venue, I immediately registered myself at the

registration booth and they gave me a kit for our seminar. In our seminar, the speaker
Dr. Patrocinio Villafuerte and he is currently teaching in Philippine Normal University. He
is a Doctor of Education (Administration and Supervision) (earned units) and a Doctor of
Philosophy in Philippine Literature (earned units. The seminar invited different schools
from around Mindanao and participated in the said seminar.

The seminar started by the verbose speaker by giving new words in

Filipino and an energizer so that everyone won’t feel sleepy through the entire seminar.
The discussion started by asking “what is an authentic material” and what should
authentic materials that will be using inside the classroom. Authentic materials help
students bridge the gap between the classroom and the outside world. Many students
enroll in school to learn to improve a language-related task. The speaker reminds us
that when using authentic materials, it should be fit to your lessons accordingly.

After the break he discussed us about what are the characteristics of an

effective teaching strategy this includes grammatical skills, strategic skills, and socio
linguistic skills. Then he gave us sample instructional materials that can be used in our
lessons. After giving it, he then groups us accordingly to where table we sit and just one
representative to present the output in front. For the last part of the seminar Ephesians
Publishing present the appreciation for Dr. Patrocinio Villafuerte for being the speaker of
the seminar and also, we are given certificates afterwards.
