CHAPTER I
PREFACE

Benchmarking is a process commonly used in management or generally strategic


management, where a unit or section or organization measure and compare performance against
activities or activities similar units or parts or other similar organizations both internally and
externally. From the results of benchmarking, an organization can obtain insights (insight)
about the condition of organizational performance so that it can adopt best practices to achieve
the desired goals. Activity Benchmarking doesn't have to be a one-time event, however it can
also be a continuous activity so that the organization can benefit in achieving best practice for
organizational activities they. The benchmarking process has several methods. One method is
The most well-known and widely adopted by the organization is Method 12, which is
introduced by Robert Camp, in his book The best search for industry practices that lead to
superior performance. Productivity Press. 1989.
CHAPTER II
INTRODUCTION

II.1. BACKGROUND

Benchmarking is one method for risk identification. Benchmarking itself is a process of


comparing and measuring a company / organization's activities to the best-in-class operating
processes as an inspiration in improving the performance of a company / organization
(Benchmarking The Primer; Benchmarking for Continuous Environmental Improvement, GEMI,
1994). In addition, benchmarking is very important because it can encourage companies /
organizations to prepare a basis for building operational plans for best practice companies and
advocating for improvement for all components of the company / organization's environment.

The importance of a benchmarking to do because there have been many studies focused on the
performance of a company / organization by stakeholders, regulators and legislators. So the
company or organization needs to know the reality of its performance and is presented in a form
of measurable data. Benchmarking is a tool that can be used to measure performance levels and
develop a best practice for a company / organization.

Benchmarking will also help companies / organizations in identifying operational strengths and
areas of the area to be improved. Thus, this will allow the company / organization to compare
with the competitor's company or organization and subsequently will be a strategic tool for
management to improve its performance.
II.2. AIM AND PURPOSE
The intentions doing “AAPG SC International Online Benchmarking” are :

1. To strengthen the kinship between the AAPG Executive Committee in other parts of the
world.
2. To add experience and also strengthen ties between organizations

3. Share experiences and exchange opinions

other 60 minutes for questions and answers session and disscussion.
