Questions A

1. What do you know about the condition monitoring of CNC machines? What methods are
common?
How to handle the heating of CNC machines?
2. What do you know about tool setting (determining the tool’s dimensions)? What solutions
do you know?
What tool monitoring solutions do you know, what are their operating principles?

I found 1 solution to check again!!!

3. What solutions do you know to determine the position of the workpiece?

4. What do you know about controlling CNC machines? What are the characteristics of the two
main types
5.
Which equipment should be used?
Not sure but I think he means : encoders

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5. Describe the possible movements of CNC milling machines.
What geometries can they do and what can they not machine? (part drawings)
Milling machine: free contour can be machined (different radius, angle, chamfer)
From internet:
Can:
Use it for any part that’s not round—or even if it is! CNC milling is a very common machining
method because of its flexibility in shape, material, workholding, and so on. You can pretty
much make any shape you need on a mill.
Can’t:
The part that you can’t produce on a mill is an internal gear tooth, or an internal
key way. You can however make the broach you will need to make one.

Any square internal corner between two vertical walls requires post-processing to
achieve. Tall walls require an equally long tool, which can deflect significantly and
result in a poor surface finish that requires additional finishing either by hand or in
a different setup.
6. Describe the possible movements of CNC turning machines.
What geometries can they do and what can they not machine? (part drawings)
• Lathe: Possible to machine taper, chamfer, different radius and sphere
From internet:
Can:
Generally, if it’s round, you’ll turn it. Examples include washers, bolts, ball bearings,
casters, and even chess pieces.
Can’t:
Can only make cylindrical or round parts.
7. Describe and characterize the possible workpiece manipulation solutions for CNC
machines!
8. Describe what you have learned about chip removal system!
What are the solutions to oil mist separations and why should we use it? What additional
cutting fluid filters do we use for CNC machines?
9. What do you know about cutting fluids?
What kind of cooling, lubrication and cleaning solutions are possible for CNC machines?
10. What do you know about automatic tool change?

What types and characteristics do they have?
