The main difference between cnc lathe

and cnc milling?

A CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Router is one of the most important devices for creating
custom made implements, which are used in a variety of industries. Two primary methods use
this technology – CNC lathing and CNC milling – and each has its bundle of pros and cons. I will
discuss some important information to consider when comparing CNC lathing and CNC milling.

Differences in CNC Methods

There is one major difference between CNC lathing and CNC milling, and that is the method in
which they cut materials. A CNC lathing machine operates by placing the object to be modified
in a spindle or chuck. Once the object is put in the chuck, it will be spun at a high rate of speed,
while a stationary cutting tool is used to form the material.

On the other hand, a CNC milling machine is non-stationary; however, the object being cut is
held permanently in place. With the object being held in place, the CNC milling machine will
move about in a predetermined pattern and cut the material.

Both are CNC (computerized controls) but the difference is operation.

In mill, machined piece is stationary while tool spins.
In late, machined piece spins, while tool is stationary.

Lathe Machines

In a lathe, the workpiece that is being machined spins about it’s axis, while the cutting tool does
not. This is referred to as “turning”, and is effective for creating cylindrical parts. Common
operations done on a lathe include drilling, boring, threading, ID and OD grooving, and parting.
When looking to create quick, repeatable, and symmetrical cylindrical parts, the lathe machine
is the best choice.

Milling Machines

The opposite is true for milling machines. The tool in a milling machine rotates about its axis,
while the workpiece does not. This allows the tool to approach the workpiece in many different
orientations that more intricate and complex parts demand. If you can program it, you can make
it in a milling machine as long as you have the proper clearance and choose the proper tooling.
Similarities in the CNC Types
The primary similarity between CNC lathing and CNC milling is that they are both means of
using a computer programmed machine to cut materials. Both types of CNC machines can be
programmed to perform a variety of different tasks, and many of the applications can be created
by either type of CNC machine with the same outcome.

There are circumstances where one type of CNC machine will be better suited for a particular
application, depending on the finalized product that is desired. In the end, each type of CNC
machine will produce the same result, but they are dependent on the application.

Milling machines and Lathe are both apparatuses that can be utilized as a part of the
workshop for chipping away at materials, for example, wood, metals, and plastic.

A CNC Lathe is a machine apparatus which pivots the piece you are dealing with, on its
hub, so you can play out a scope of operations, for example, turning, cutting, drilling and
so on.

A CNC Milling machine is a device which has turning cutter and is utilized for machine
parts into exceptionally exact shapes and sizes. Processing can be performed with
various distinctive devices including a processing machine, a CNC switch, or a machine
focus.
