to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence. The ICRC

About the Job


The ICRC Weapon Contamination Department is looking for a Weapon Contamination (WeC) Field
Officer to be based in its Maungdaw Sub-delegation ,. In close cooperation with the supervisor, the WeC
Field Officer will be responsible for the implementation and monitoring of ICRC Weapon Contamination
(WeC) activities in relation to reducing the risk of landmines, un-exploded ordnances, accidents, including
field trips.The Wec Field Officer will be covering Rakhine State (Maungdaw and Sittwe ) Sub-delegations.

The position will be based in Maungdaw with travels to other ICRC offices in Rakhine State. You
should be willing to relocate to Maungdaw.
Start date: as soon as possible
Duties and Responsibilities
 You will act as the WeC focal point for Maungdaw in particular and Rakhine State, maintain and
develop good working relationships and coordinate with relevant mine action stakeholders throughout
the state;
 You will coordinate with Department of Social Welfare and Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) for
the implementation of mine risk education and victim assistance activities as applicable;
 You will organize the WeC assessment visits to have better understanding of WeC issues and
broader perspective of danger/risks to which the civilian population is exposed;
 You will also join other ICRC departments during implementation of their activities making sure that
ICRC colleagues work in a safe manner with regard to the hazards of weapon contamination;
 You will collaborate with the MRCS MRE Officer in the implementation and monitoring of Mine Risk
Education activities in Maungdaw, Buthidaung and Sittwe;
 You are required to collect various landmine/ Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) accident data in
accordance to the ICRC and MRCS reporting system;
 Moreover, you will provide administrative and logistic support for Weapon Contamination trainings
and support the Mine Risk Education training for Red Cross Volunteers;
 In addition, you will contribute to field assessment reports as well as interpreting accurately from
English to Myanmar and vice versa during field visits.

About you
To be successful as the WeC Field Officer in the Weapon Contamination Department, you should
possess the following qualifications and experiences;
 It is required to have a relevant degree from a University or technical colleague;
 You should have 2 years’ work experience in Weapon Contamination/ mine action or a similar field
and at least 3 years overall professional experiences;
 You should be academically or professionally proficient in a technical WeC-related subject;
 You should have excellent command of written and spoken English as well as Myanmar language;
 You should have good presentation and communication skills, as well as a good computer skill;
 You are required to have good knowledge of the geographic area assigned;
 Knowledge of the ICRC/humanitarian work is a strong asset.

also be self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles. You should
be flexible, enthusiastic and have the willingness to learn from others. You should also be able to work
independently, as well as effectively under supervision. You should have the proven ability to organize
and prioritize multiple tasks and cope with competing demands under tight deadlines. You should be
able to exercise discretion and could establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic,
multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment.
