11.8 HOT TAPPING
This method is used to remove a defect from a pipeline in service. A hot-tap fitting is installed around the pipe and the defect is removed in the same way as removing a segment from the pipe wall for branch connections using the hot-tap method. The requirements for hot-tapping are: When hot tapping is used as a means of repair, the portion of piping containing the defect shall be completely removed.
