Individual Activity #2- Essay

Determine the significance of the Magellan’s Expedition on the following

a. Spain
b. Philippines
c. The World
The significance of the Magellan’s Expedition to Spain is that his voyage was the first to make
its presence known to Spain and in the whole Europe. It was mean by “discovery”, but Magellan
didn’t quite discover the Philippines which had been known for centuries.
To Philippines, Magellan brought the Philippines into the circle of Western knowledge.
Magellan is the only one who proved that the East could be reached by sailing westward from
Europe. His voyage brought the archipelago into the knowledge of Europe. On September 6,
1522, Magellan finally arrived at Port of Seville. Also, the expedition headed the Philippines to
the Spanish colonization.
The Expedition of Magellan contributed to many aspects of the world such as historical,
geographical, philosophical, and astronomical. According to NASA scientist Alan Stern, the
voyage was a turning point in history, as exceptional as the first manned journey into outer space
and the later moon landings. Also, it changed the maps and geography books. In philosophical, it
widens the humans’ own understanding of their place in the world. The expedition gave
Europeans a knowledge of the Earth and has marked the space exploration and astronomy up to
this day.
Overall, the Magellan’s Expedition inspires the world and was a milestone in the history of
exploration and still acknowledged by his modern-day successors.
