THE BONFIRE IN THE COLD NIGHT
SCENE 1 - DIFFERENT PATHS UNITE
The tragedy of grief is that a person who is no longer around is the person you need to speak to
about how you feel. The tale is about five lives whose lives have changed completely due to
certain events and had to experience pain and sorrow, but because they were together, they found
comfort in the company of each other.
A few months down the Ronny side, the dog prevailed over Tom. Even though Ronny had the
right to go on the streets anywhere and anywhere, he didn't have the will to. His family of dogs
have died because of ill health. Now he's all alone; his only best friend is Ravi, who comes to
play with him every day for 15 to 20 minutes. Ravi was genuinely worried about his sweet little
doggy buddy, but he knew he would not be able to take full care of Ronny because of his hectic
work life. Ravi's sister Shalini, on the other hand, was lonely, too as she lost her beloved Karna
some days back. Ravi empathically thought of simultaneously solving the two problems. He
gifted Shalini to Ronny. It was the first time Shalini had a smile on her face after Karna's death.
Ronny has found a permanent home this way, and Shalini has found a new best friend, the one
she can lean on the one she can share all her stories with. While she knew no one could replace
Karna, she knew that a dog could give her the warmth and affection Karna used to give her.
SCENE 2 – NEW BEGINNING
Since Shalini was a graduate of business administration, she thought that moving on and
concentrating on her career would be perfect. Shalini started searching for an acceptable job and
began working on a start-up idea as well. She met a wonderfully brilliant boy one day when
Shalini was at an exhibition, and that boy was none other than Tanmay. Tanmay, our smart
pants, was searching for an investor for his innovative concept for a start-up. Behold the miracle
of the universe! Not only did Shalini direct Tanmay with the right funding resources, she also
took it on herself to build Tanmay's start-up. Tanmay could also prove to his father that he is
willing to do things in this way.
When one day she got a message from a US-based company to try their start-up, Shalini tried to
contact some companies for their start-up idea and if that start-up was a success, both Shalini and
Tanmay would get a chance to work there and expand their idea. However, Tanmay persuaded
his father to let him go to the US as Shalini made sure to take care of all his finances. Tanmay
made a friend on their flight to the US and that was none other than Arjun. Arjun was on his way
to the US to have his legs treated. Since Arjun and Tanmay had no other mates, they made sure
they would keep in touch once they reached the US and Tanmay told Arjun that during his
treatment he would go to visit Arjun at the Hospital. In the Sherman Oaks area, they rented a
home. It was in the same neighbourhood where Ryan and his mother lived. While Ryan and his
mother were coping with his father during a difficult period, the family made sure that Shalini,
Ronny and Tanmay felt like family and even helped them improve.
SCENE 3 – SETTLED LIVES
In Ryan, Shalini found a friend and would also chat about her past with him. Ryan's mother
found her own children to be Shalini and Tanmay and would prepare Indian delicacies for them.
His mother would spend her whole day with Ronny because everyone else had to go to the
office, and even if it was a puppy, what better than getting someone's business. By taking him
out to various parks, Ryan used to spend his evenings playing with Ronny. He also used to help
Shalini and Tanmay in their start-up ideas as Ryan worked in a successful business. The three of
them will visit Arjun in the hospital, along with Ronny, and spend quality time with each other.
They all had one thing in common, and that was pain, the pain of losing their loved ones, the
pain of losing themselves, of finding consolation in the company of each other, of making a little
family of their own. He used to weep in front of Shalini, talking about how his father tries to
harass his mother and threatens to kill her if they refrain from giving him money. Ryan used to
share Shalini's stuff about his father. He understood that he had no other choice but to accept all
his father's actions.
SCENE 4 – UNPLEASANT HAPPENING
It was Tuesday afternoon, when everyone was at work, and Ryan's mother was alone doing her
daily chores with Ronnie, and Ryan's father had broken into his house out of nowhere, high on
drugs. He began to harass Ryan's mother, even though there was no one in the neighbourhood to
scream for help except for Ronny, but what a tiny dog could do in front of such a huge man. He
even tried to rescue Ryan's mother, but he was unsuccessful. Ronnie barked his lungs out. She
saw Ryan coming from behind as she tried to get hold of stuff in her hands. Ryan had a vase in
his hands, he didn't know what he was doing, he smashed the vase right into the head of his
father, and all of it was soaked in blood, horribly shocked, shivering in terror that his own father
had killed him. He began to blabber with anxiety, realised he was going to do prison time now
and his future is over, but his mother convinces him that without everyone knowing, they will
take care of the body. Ryan resisted this decision and was very adamant to go to the police, but a
mother would never let her child go through pain, and so was Ryan's mother. In order to
persuade Ryan not to go to the police, she did all she could. Ryan and his mother washed their
house very carefully, making sure there were no drops of blood, and laid the body on the back
seat of the car, wrapped in a jute bag. Ronnie was sitting there on the floor watching all this
havoc unfold, except for barking, but what a dog could do.
SCENE 5 – DARK NIGHT DEAD BODY BESIDE
It was October 31st, Halloween day and Ryan knew that as part of the tradition, it was that time
of year when bonfire is made and it was the right chance to get rid of that body. Ryan had all his
friends invited, including Shalini, Tanmay, and Arjun. He wanted to tell Shalini what had
happened, but he didn't want her to get swept up in his mother's dark secrets. He put the jute bag
in the fire with his father's body inside it, as Ryan and his mother were taking care of the bonfire.
Big flames came out of the fire and people just laughed and enjoyed the heat. Except for Ryan
and his mother, the whole community enjoyed the bonfire night because they were the only one
who knew there was a dead man inside the fire and the whole neighbourhood was enjoying his
FUNERAL.
