Notes:
'zài'...gōngzuò' means 'to work somewhere'. 'zài' here serves as a preposition. Pay
attention to the position of a prepositional phrase in the sentence. In Chinese it
occurs before the verb.

2. Zhè shì Xiè lǎoshī de érzi. [This is Prof. Xie's son. 这 是 谢 老 師 的 儿子。]
3. Tā zài nálǐ gōngzuò. [Where does he work? 他 在 哪 裡 工 作﹖]
4. Tā zài Ohio gōngzuò. [He works in Ohio. 他 在 Ohio 工 作。]
Notes:
'de' is a possessive marker. 'Xiè lǎoshī de érzi' means 'Prof. Xie's son'. When the
relationship is very close, the word 'de' is optional. For example, 'wǒ bàba, wǒ
māma, tā péngyou' and etc.
Pay particular attention to the position of a location word in a sentence. In
Chinese location words usually occur before the verb. Please compare the
following Chinese and English counterparts:
o He works in Shanghai.
o Tā zài Shànghǎi gōngzuò.
