Test I. Answer the following and write down your answers on the space provided below.

1. Discuss the interior wiring systems?

Electrical wiring system is responsible for powering specific elements within a  system, that
need electricity to work. It is helpful to survey the different types of interior wiring systems
before commencing a discussion of components. When the primary purpose of a system is
to distribute electrical energy, it is referred to as an electrical power system; when the
purpose is to transmit information, it is referred to as an electrical signal or a communication
system. Due to the nature of electricity, its distribution within a structure for power use poses
a single basic problem: how to construct a distribution system that safely provides the energy
required at the desired locations. The safety consideration is all-important because all parts
of an interior distribution system are connected to the utility's powerful network, and the very
real potential for physical damage, injury, and fire is always present. The solution to this
problem is to isolate all electrically conducting elements from the building structure, except at
those specific points, such as wall receptacles, where contact is desired. This isolation is
generally accomplished by insulating the conductors and placing them in protective
raceways. The principal types of interior wiring systems in use today are exposed insulated
cables, insulated cables in open raceways, and insulated conductors in closed raceways.

2. What are the electrical system components and discuss each?

Electrical systems are groups of electrical components connected to carry out some
operation. The components of an electrical system depend on the type of applications. For
example the electrical power system consists of three major components: generation, a high
voltage transmission grid, and a distribution  system. The high voltage
transmission system links the generators to substations, which supply power to the user
through the distribution system. These components can be sub-classified as generators,
transformers, transmission lines, busses, and loads.

Generator is a device that converts motive power (mechanical energy) into electrical power
for use in an external circuit.

Transformer is a passive electrical device that transfers electrical energy from

one electrical circuit to another or multiple circuits.

Transmission lines are sets of wires, called conductors that carry electric power from
generating plants to the substations that deliver power to customers.

Bus/busses in a power system is defined as the vertical line at which the several
components of the power system like generators, loads, and feeders, etc., are connected.

Electrical load is an electrical component or portion of a circuit that consumes

(active) electric power. This is opposed to a power source, such as a battery or generator,
which produces power. In electric power circuits examples of loads are appliances and
lights.

An electrical system, within the context of a building, is a network of conductors and equipment
designed to carry, distribute and convert electrical power safely from the point of delivery or
generation to the various loads around the building that consume the electrical energy. The vast
majority of electrical systems used in buildings in the Philippines operate at 220V single
phase alternating current (AC) or 400V 3 phase, at a frequency of 60Hz. These networks are often
referred to as low voltage (LV) networks. This system is also referred to as mains electricity.

Test I. Answer the following and write down your answers on the space provided below.

1. Choose one of the sustainable future systems that can be used in sustainable building
design and develop or design a system that can be used for a sustainable building
design.

Electro-road Ramp

Energy is the major column for the development of the any nation in this modern society. For meeting up the
regular demand of energy, Philippines in particular we need to design a system that will produce sufficient
electricity without destroying the environment we should dig deep and meet the need of our current citizens
without compromising the future generation that need to be born in a sustainable development system. This
project shows how energy can be generated , stored and used by the help of travelling car pressure that

produces kinetic energy in the road ramp which easily converted into electric energy and stored in every
affordable and cheaper way.
