PARTICIPATION REPORT 4
Reflections
For the purposes of this course, discussion activities fostered achievement of tasks
assigned. Here, I was able to gain experience completing tasks that would enhance the quality
of instruction I design. Even too, skills learned in GIMP were skills that I always wanted to
learn. Here, I gained the underpinnings necessary for developing my image editing skills.
learned about basic codes for creating an HTML page. Notably, coding is one of the self-
development activities I would like to engage in when I have free time. Additionally, I
learned about important features of image file formats. Knowledge of said file formats would
guide my selection of file types used in web and non-web situations. For example, even
though JPG images may be ideal for the web as they maintain suitable quality with
compression and load fast, I may choose a PNG image instead as said images retain image
encountered and explored several video editors. In uploading said videos, I learned about
popular YouTube video frame sizes, frame rates, codecs and how they impact quality. It was
clear that these features impacted quality, even before reading about them, as the image
quality and playback speed varied. Also, in retrospect, I am now aware of different
techniques I could have used to capture this instructional video. This learning was derived
from both reviewing my peers’ feedback and from reviewing print and video information
about different recording techniques. The screen capture exercise seemed manageable.
However, I learned that preparing a script, or jotting points, may be beneficial when carrying
out this exercise. Here, I had to recapture my video several times as I stumbled over words.
Even too, I noted that some of the editors used did not support the playback of certain
applications well; a few of the recapturing attempts was related to this problem.
PARTICIPATION REPORT 5
I noted additional collaborative authoring tools that I could use this semester. Prior to
this course I did not know that there were formats that I could use to create concept maps
with peers. I feel that this would be beneficial for future courses and other activities.
Additionally, I was able to use Edmodo for the first time. Navigating in this Learning Content
Management System allowed me to discover features that allow instructors to share resources
with colleagues.
Furthermore, the information that I found most interesting in this course was that
pertinent to copyright. In past courses at this educational institution and others, instructors
have admonished students about plagiarism and encouraged students to cite sources.
Therefore, I perceived that it was okay to replicate, modify and use print, image and video
content from an author or designer provided information was cited. Though this is true to an
extent, I am now learning that I should take note of the type of license the creator holds. I
should also note if media retrieved is in the public domain. This is so because said legal
licenses affect my ability to reproduce, modify, or share content across different contexts.
In closing, discussions and activities in this course built on the earlier course that
