Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to recognize the significant role of water in Earth
processes.
Technology Standard Addressed

Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):
☐ Remembering ☐Understanding ☐Applying ☐Analyzing ☐ Evaluating X Creating
Levels of Technology Integration:
☐Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

X Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-driven.
Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning newscast,
posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
- Both this activity and the tools used to complete it are teaching the students another way of doing
things and portraying information that they learned. They can also use many different methods of
finding information. All of the variety in the information gathering methods as well as the methods used
to portray the information is what helps to keep the students interested in completing the activity and
learning about different things. All of these are a part of the UDL Principles.
Lesson idea implementation:
- The students will be using the video that I have created as an example and making videos of their own to
describe and define the water cycle in their own ways. I used iMovie for the video that I created, so my
students will be using the same unless issues arise and they are unable to use this application. This
application is on each and every one of the school supplied iPads, so the students will not have to create
or log in to any personal or school accounts. I will introduce the project by showing them the video that I
created and giving them some rules and other necessary information. They will have at least a week to
finish the video.

They will present their videos to the class when they are done. How well they did on this assignment will
be determined by what kind and how much information they included in their videos that they made.
Their final projects will help teach their fellow students more about the concept of the water cycle from

different viewpoints. They can include any bonus information that may have found to extend their
learning. The students will receive their information when they receive their grades back. I will have
notes with comments and suggestions on how they can improve in the future.
Importance of technology:
- The use of a multimedia authoring tool is critical for many reasons. It offers another method of
distributing or sharing information with others. This specific project revolves around the use of
technology, so no; it cannot be completed without technology. However, if you want to still do a project
on this subject, you can do something else to share the information with others like making drawings,
posters, or other methods. Without the ability to use technology, the students would miss out on an
opportunity to learn how to use technology. This project uses video creating and editing tools.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
- Some possible issues surrounding the topics of both internet safety and student privacy would be things
like the personal information of the students getting out and/or being spread around. I could minimize
the risk by not using sites and tools that require that kind of information to be able to use them. I could
use other methods to teach my students. I can also have parents and students fill out all of the required
forms so they have all the information that they need on how we will be protecting the students and
others. These forms are a part of the policies, so having the parents and students fill them out falls
under the required steps of protecting everyone.
Reflective Practice:
- I feel that this activity helps further the understanding of the students when it comes to how tools like
iMovie and other video creating and editing software works. This activity teaches just a part of the topic
being taught. This activity could be used as an introductory or final assignment for this topic. To further
extend their learning they can go in more depth about the water cycle and the different parts of it. They
can use different SAFE search tools on the internet as well as different project creation tools. There are
many different Microsoft project creation tools like PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
