Hon. Rodenio Salilid

Punong Barangay
Tul-ang, Ibajay, Aklan

Dear Kap,

I am sure that you are very stressed right now. I can’t imagine how it
must feel to have such an important job. Here are some things I think you
should know now since you are the barangay captain in our barangay and
have the ability to change some things. Today I would like to talk about the
environment here in our barangay. The things that are really hurting us and
the environment are pollution. That is my only concern in some of the factors
that will really hurt us if we don’t change something right now. So much time
has passed and we haven’t been properly addressing these issues. Our
generation has been really good about trying to stop things like smoking
which I don’t disagree with, but I think that the environment is just as
important if not more. Pollution the number one toxins that directly impact
the atmosphere are exhaust from industry and motor vehicles. The
contaminants responsible for this contamination are heavy metals, nitrates
and plastics. However, there are many different types of pollution. Wind is
what we breathe and how we live. But because of the numerous gasses and
toxins emitted from manufacturers and factories, and the burning of fossil
fuels, our air is in danger, which means we are. Soil contamination is caused
by agricultural waste, which deprives soil of vital nutrients. How are we going
to have plants without soil. It also came from our town's garbage dump, which
is situated in our barangay. And often, as you're going through the garbage
dump, you will sense the terrible smell that comes from it, even though it's far
away from the road or the residences. I am just a teen so it is difficult to think
of a solution but I think if you lower the cost for things like solar panels, that
would help. Also adding more fines or creating a law to not pollute would
probably be helpful.

Respectfully yours,

Ramona Grace Simera
