a. Sidereal time –
Time defined by the daily rotation of the earth with respect to the equinox or first point of Aries. The
sidereal time is numerically measured by the hour angle of the equinox, which represents the position of
the equinox on daily rotation.
c. Mean sidereal time – The time measured by the daily motion of the mean equinox of date, which is
affected only by the secular inequalities due to the precession of the axis. Mean sidereal time is deduced
from apparent sidereal time by applying the equation of equinoxes.
2. The apparent positions of the stars are commonly reckoned with reference to an imaginary called the
vernal equinox.
3. The period of the earth’s rotation measured with respect to the vernal equinox is called a
sidereal day.
5. What is the other term for Ephemeris Time (ET)? Dynamic time.
Exercise 2: Draw the following in another sheet.
1.Draw the “Apparent eastward movement of the sun with respect to the stars”.
