This lesson serves as a reminder to students that we are all in this together. Students will think about things they admire
about their classmates and write them on their backs anonymously. At the end of class students will each have a paper full
of nice things their classmates think about them. This will foster class unity and kindness.

pay it forward reminder to be kind.

What happened in the video?

What did you guys think of that?

We are going to be kind to our classmates today. Everyone will need

to get out their markers. We will hand you a piece of paper and some
tape. Get someone to help you put the paper on your back.

You guys have heard of talking behind peoples, back right? We are
going to do that in a positive way. We are going to be writing
compliments about your classmates behind their back. You will mingle
around the classroom having people write on your back and you write
on others. Once everyone has written on everyone, we will take them
off and read them. Leave the comments anonymous.

Some examples of things you could write are:

You are so so good at math, I admire how dedicated you are to

hockey, you are an amazing basketball player, you are so kind to
everyone you meet, You are a great friend, I love your smile, you are
such a sweet friend to me.

Do not write mean or nasty things if you do you get kicked out of the
activity and can write an essay on kindness.

Transition: hand out papers

Activity #2: spread kindness [student lead] 45 mins

Get out a marker.

Each student will have a paper taped to their back. The class will
mingle around and write on each other back something nice. It could
be something they admire or something they like, or a Compliment.

Once everyone has wrote something on each person, we will take

them off and read them.

Transition: If there is extra time work on your recipe books.

If there is extra time you can write thankyou cards to people in the
school. It could be a past teacher, present teacher, the janitor who
looks after the school, your mom, dad, grownups ect. Write to
someone who needs to feel appreciated this Christmas season.

Consolidating ( 5 ) mins In this part of your planning you are providing time for ensuring that students learned and
understood what was intended in the lesson. If they haven't you will need to revisit your lesson plan or re-teach (if
necessary). Here you could provide an exit slip or walk through a guided whole group and/or small group
discussion. This part of the lesson can act also as a transition from lesson body into cleanup and getting ready for the
next class. Don't forget to time this and to indicate very clearly how you will facilitate consolidation and closure.
Provide clear steps and indicate process. To consolidate, clean up and get students ready for transition can take up to
10 depending on the lesson
Clean up ( 5 ) mins

Reflection (after the lesson respond to these questions in brief. It is important that this reflective process is done after
each lesson. These become points of extended reflection and conversation in post conference with TA and UC)

How the students responded to the lesson as planned and taught: The students loved the activity. The look on their faces
after they got their paper was priceless. They were really uplifted and happy. The class seems to be kinder to one another
and there is less drama.

Specific strengths of the lesson plan and delivery: instruction was well done and clear, The kids responded well and were
very kind to one another.

Specific weaknesses in the lesson plan and delivery: Some students needed help with coming up with compliments. I
should do more brainstorming of compliments and more student think time to make sure they know what they want to
write.

What must be addressed to improve this plan? If I were to do this lesson again, I would write more examples on the
board. Give them more time to think about what they want to write about each classmate.

How I have grown from this teaching experience: This lesson really uplifted me too because I got a paper. The most
impactful part was that one student who is very quiet and comes from a rough background was so happy. He came up to
the teachers and wondered which classmates wrote the nice things about them. They kept their paper on their desk all day
and admired it.

Feedback from TA:

LESSON PLAN TEMPLATE Practicum Fall 2020 St. Georges
This lesson went really well. Next time I would give the students more time to think about what they want to
write.

I would do a big brainstorming session on the board of examples of things to say.

The kids were glowing after this lesson.

They seemed more aware of one another feeling after this lesson.

What I learned:

This was a great way to settle the conflicts in the class and encourage the students to be nice to each
other. The lesson also served a great pick me up for all students. Every student’s paper was filled with really
considerate compliments from their peers. Through this activity the students were able to see what their peers
and teacher though of them. It increased confidence and positivity in the classroom. At the end of the lesson
we talked about random acts of kindness. We made thankyou cards for Staff and students in the school. We
made cards for the janitor and the secretary that often do not get recognized. As a grade 5/6 class we inspired
a kindness trend. Our cards inspired the ¾ class to make cards as well. The ½ class then started to make cards.
Soon the school was filled with thank you and admiration cards. It was such a great way to go into the
Christmas break all the kids had a collection of cards with kind words on them.
