What does audience demographics mean?


Demographics are the classifiable characteristics of a given
population. Demographic characteristics most used in public health statistics include age,
gender, religion, ethnic background, class, sexual orientation, occupation, education, group
membership, and countless other categories. Since these categories often organize individual's
identities and experiences, a wise speaker attends to them.

What is a Primary audience? Primary audience consists of a person to whom a message is


directed to. For example, a letter or memo is addressed to a specific person or persons such as
adults, family, and kids.

What is a secondary audience? Secondary audience is the audience that will unlikely buy the
product or take the any advice from it or its service.

What theory describes a passive audience?


Explain this theory: A theory of a passive audience accepts the message in the way the media
outlet intended it while an active audience questions what they see and form their own opinions.

Examples that illustrate this theory: The audience accepts and believes all messages in any
media text that they receive.

What theory describes an active audience? An active audience is one that actively engages


with the text. They do not simply accept every media message.
