1. Give a situation where a woman can file VAWC (violence against woman and
children)? 10 pts.
A woman can file VAWC when there’s physical violence, sexual violence,
psychological violence, or economic abuse. Physical violence refers to acts that include
bodily or physical harm. For example, the case of a battered wife wherein the husband
physically hits her and made her as a punching bag. On the other hand, sexual violence
refers to an act that is sexual in nature, committed against women or her child. This
includes: Rape, sexual harassment, acts of lasciviousness, treating a woman or her
child as a sex object, making demeaning and sexually suggestive remarks, physically
attacking the sexual parts of the victim's body, forcing her/him to watch obscene
publications and indecent shows or forcing the woman or her child to do indecent acts
and/or make films thereof, forcing the wife and mistress/lover to live in the conjugal
home or sleep together in the same room with the abuser; Acts causing or attempting to
cause the victim to engage in any sexual activity by force, threat of force, physical or
other harm or threat of physical or other harm or coercion; Prostituting the woman or
child. Psychological violence refers to acts or omissions causing or likely to cause
mental or emotional suffering of the victim such as but not limited to intimidation,
harassment, stalking, damage to property, public ridicule or humiliation, repeated verbal
abuse, and mental infidelity. It includes causing or allowing the victim to witness the
physical, sexual or psychological abuse of a member of the family to which the victim
belongs, or to witness pornography in any form or to witness abusive injury to pets or
unlawful or unwanted deprivation of the right to custody and/or visitation of common
children. Lastly, economic abuse refers to acts that make or attempt to make woman
financially dependent.
3. Explain the cases of poverty and give an idea on how to solve it? 10 pts.
Poverty refers to the deprivation of those things that determine the quality of life
including food, clothing, shelter, and safe drinking water, but also “intangibles” such as
the opportunity to learn and to enjoy the respect of fellow citizens. There are two types
of poverty: Income poverty and non-income poverty. The former refers to people not
having access to money or other assets. The best way to reduce income poverty is to
encourage and support the development of effective businesses that make good use of
our natural resources and talents to create wealthy jobs. Non-income poverty on the
other hand happens when people may have a little bit of money but otherwise, the
quality of their life is not good. They do not have access to affordable social and
physical services and they may feel safe in their homes either because they cannot trust
the authorities or because they belong to some particularly vulnerable group. The best
way to reduce this is to make sure that people have access to affordable and good
quality social services and infrastructure that they feel secure in their homes, that they
trust the authorities and if they are vulnerable, there are safety net programs to protect
them. Moreover, those living in poverty and lacking access to essential health services,
suffering hunger, or even starvation, experience mental and physical health problems
which make it harder to improve their situation. In individual perspectives, it suggested
that people should work harder. In cultural perspectives, it suggests that enhancing
people’s cultural capital to make them better prepared for employment. Furthermore,
structural perspectives are based on the assumption that society can reduce poverty by
creating jobs and training programs and investing in people through the provision of
child care, health care, and affordable housing.
4. What do you think are the reason why minor or youth engage in criminal behaviour?
10 pts.
Juvenile delinquency deals with children, minors, or youth below twenty-one
years of age who break the law or fail to do what the law requires. I believe the reason
why minors or youth engage in criminal behavior is due to social disorganization,
poverty, and broken homes. Social disorganization is where diverse cultural standards
flourish with little interaction among the members, and community solidarity is utterly
wanting. The manifestations of it are the desire for power, wealth, prestige, and the
atmosphere where fear, hate, antagonism, and hostility are prevalent. This is
exemplified in slum areas, where families come from different places of the country
speak different languages, and people are constantly on the move to survive. Another
thing to consider is poverty, it is assumed that extreme poverty may lead to juvenile

delinquency. Moreover, broken homes also play a vital role that leads to delinquency.
This condition is characterized by the separation of husband and wife brought about by
warm migration imprisonment or employment outside the country. Permanent broken
homes are the separation of spouses caused by marital discord, bickering, animosity,
infidelity, and lack of trust that consequently lead to legal separation. Due to this,
children commit crimes because of the lack of adequate parental, delays in achieving
adult status, and hedonistic tendencies.
If I would be a victim of any form of violence I would not turn a blind eye to it and I
will reach the authorities immediately to file Violence against Women and Children.
