1. Show that the function u(r, θ ) = r 2 cos 2θ is harmonic. Find its conjugate harmonic function
and the corresponding analytic function f (z).

2. If u is a harmonic function, then show that w = u2 is not a harmonic function, unless u is a


constant.

3. Show that the function v(x, y) = ln(x 2 + y 2 ) + x + y, z 6= 0 is harmonic. Find the corresponding
conjugate harmonic function u(x, y) and construct the analytic function f (z) = u + i v.

4. Show that u(x 2 − y 2 , 2x y) is harmonic, if and only if u(x, y) is a harmonic function.

5. If f (z) is an anlytic function, show that | f (z)| is not a harmonic function.
