ELECTIVE COURSES

Registration of Elective Courses

(a) Optional/elective courses are offered only in Term III, IV, V, and VI. The registration process for
elective courses shall be completed in the previous term through an online blind bidding process
where a student can see only his/her bidding information.
(b) The formula for awarding bidding points to students will be: [X+0.1 of X (OGPA)]. The program
committee will decide the value of X. The OGPA score indicates the average of classroom grades
available at the time of bidding. The grades of VFS and SIS won’t be included in the OGPA for
this purpose. A student will have to use his/her bidding points to bid for the courses of his/her
choices. Students will be able to bid the points up to two decimal points.
(c) The maximum intake of any elective course shall not exceed two sections, that is, 120 students. An
elective course must secure a minimum of 30 registrations for it to take off. Students must not
try to manipulate the registration process with other students or course instructors. Any such
attempt will be referred to the disciplinary committee.
(d) The course allotment will be done based on the bidding amount. Top bidders will be registered in
the course. The minimum bidding point for choosing a course will be one. Zero will not be
allowed. A student has to use all available bidding points to submit the bid successfully. The
candidate cannot change the bidding point after submission. Bidding for all required credits is
compulsory in every round. If anyone fails to adhere to this requirement, he/she will have to pay
the penalty of Rs. 5000/-. Every student has to participate in the bidding process, failing which a
penalty of Rs. 5000/- will be levied, and the students will be allotted courses from amongst the
remaining seats. In this case, the student will have no say in the allocation of the courses. If a
student still chooses not to accept the decision or complete the registration process, she/he shall be
deemed to have withdrawn the admission from the program. The PGDM-RM Chair will
arbitrate cases where students cite the failure of IT systems as the reason for incomplete registration
in consultation with the IT Chair. The student must produce conclusive evidence of the same
(screenshots, etc.). The decision of the PGDM-RM chair in such situations will be final and
binding.
(e) If a course gets oversubscribed (number of bidders are higher than the maximum intake), it will not
be made available in the subsequent rounds of bidding. The students who could not get the course
due to low bidding will get their points back, and they have to bid again for the remaining credits in
the next round.
(f) If a course receives the minimum applications, i.e., 20 in the first round and 30 in the second round,
but does not achieve the maximum intake, the remaining seats will be available for bidding in the
subsequent rounds. The minimum bid points made for this course will be taken into account, and
the extra bid points will be returned to the students for use in the subsequent rounds.
(g) If a course is dropped due to insufficient registrations, the students who have enrolled for this
course will have to meet their registration requirements from the set of available elective courses.
(h) If multiple students bid the same points for fewer seats, then the following criteria will be adopted
to complete the allocation:
(i) Student(s) with higher OGPA will be given preference
(ii) If OGP are the same, then a five-digit random number will be generated, and students with a
higher number will be selected.
(i) Auto-submission of the selected courses (with bid points) will be executed after the round is closed
provided the following conditions are fulfilled:
(i) Completion of the required credits of elective courses
(ii) Consumption of all available bidding points
(j) The whole process (all rounds of bidding) will be held during October 1 - 2, 2020. The first round
will start on 01st October at 18:00 Hrs and end on 02nd October 2020 at 08:00 Hrs. Round 2 will
start at 10:00 Hrs on 2nd October 2020. Round 2 and 3 will be of 60 minutes. A gap of one and a
half hours will be kept between two rounds. This time will be used for the compilation and sharing
of the results with the students.
(k) Students are not allowed to change his/her bidding point allocation, choices, or allotted courses at
any stage of the process. Once a course is allotted, no withdrawal will be permitted.
(l) If a course is cancelled after the registration process is complete, then the students who had
enrolled for such a course will be allocated to the available courses only.
