Pakistan, we have started a number of projects to improve the situation by
provision of facilities for the general public, regardless of their socio-economic
status.
3. Overview:
When I was asked from University to spend 65 hours in Volunteer in Service in
Organization in which we will be placed after registration. After registration in VIS
a date was carefully chosen for the survey. On that day our director told us about
the importance of VIS. As students are an important part of society, they should be
aware of problems of people and their responsibilities towards the society.
o Volunteers are not allowed to conduct Fund Raising for any organization.
o Volunteers are not allowed to get directly involved in any activity that includes
Financing.
Focus Area:
The basic focus is to provide facility in urban areas of Pakistan and free clothes,
shoes, toys and other necessary items etc. for those peoples who are poor and
needy.
6. Summing up:
Firstly, an Orientation of the program was held by the team of Helping Hand for
Relief & Development (HHRD) followed by the survey. A student team of around
40 volunteers from Capital University did the survey on March 31, 2018 of the
town and registered about 300 families for the event who were issued tokens to
receive the necessary items on the main event day. The survey was followed by
receiving of donation items by Capital University from HHRD on April 07, 2018.
After receiving the donation items, work stations were set up in the university and
about 50 students were actively involved in sorting and packing of items. The
security team of Capital University voluntarily worked hard in supporting the
project and the university facilitated by providing the essential resources for the
program. After packing of items, they were dispatched to the place one day before
and displayed for the event.
On the day of event, the management consisted of different teams namely the
media, volunteer’s registration and security team with assigned tasks and duties.
The registered families brought tokens which were stamped on entry and then the
ushers assisted them to the mall where the villagers selected the required items.
The team of HHRD consisted of 6 representatives who actively distributed items to
needy people. On 08 April we were told to report at Koral, Shareefabad, and
Islamabad by 8am sharp. Orientation was from 8 am to 10 am. Sir told us about the
objectives of the organization. Different tasks & activities were assigned to
volunteers. I spent the whole day of my volunteer service with different kind of
peoples. The common thing which I did was to hold their items and to guide them
about items and took care of the items. It was my first experience there. It was
totally different experience and was very good, I like to help poor and needy
peoples; it feels too good, the inner happiness. The event was on April 08, 2018.
7. Lesson learnt:
The Mall of humanity is working very well for poor and needy. The organization
has been working hard to work for those who need it. The HHRD worked hard to
provide the essential items to us so that we could hand them out. Though a flaw I
noticed was that there was some mismanagement involved in the event. The tent
used for the event was of very bad quality and leaked everywhere because of the
rain and many of our displayed fabrics so we had to redo everything.
