LADDER HAZARDS
There are some hazards associated with ladder use

 Ladder Structural Failure

 Ladder Tripping sideways or slipping out at the bottom
 Ladder legs not fully opened and locked, causing the ladder to twist or close up
when a load is applied to the ladder.
 Using metal ladder around electricity
 Using fixed ladders without cages or fall protection.
 Using bad condition ladder.

SAFE LADDER USE

 Employees should follow these rules when placing, ascending and descending
ladders
 Hold on with both hands when going up or down. If material must be handled,
rise or lower it with a rope either before going down or after climbing to the
desired level.
 Always face the ladder when going up or down.
 be sure shoes are not greasy, muddy or slippery before climbing
 do not climb higher than the third step from the top.
 Carry tools on a tool belt not in the hand.
 Use a 4 to 1 ratio when leaning a ladder. (Place a 12 feet ladder so the bottom
is 3 feet away from the object.
 Inspect ladder for defects before using.
 Never use a defective ladder. Tag or red color marks it so that it will be able to
repair or able to destroyed.
 Be sure that a step ladder is fully open and the metal spreader locked before
starting to climb.
 Keep ladder clean and free from oil & Grease.
 Never use ladder during a strong wind except in an emergency and then only
when they are fully secure.
 Never leave placed ladder unattended.
 Never attempt to adjust a ladder while a user is standing on the ladder.
 Never jump from ladder. Always dismount from the bottom stop.
