In the Classroom
Ask your school’s OT for
Heavy Work Activities equipment to try such as a
weighted vest or ball chair
Erase or wash chalkboard
Wash desks or tabletops Weight Bearing Activities
Carry a box of books  Chair push ups
Push or stack chairs  Push on desktop or table top

Rearrange bookshelves  Wall push ups

Open doors for others  Wheelbarrow walk

Staple paper onto bulletin board  Crab walk


Take movement or  Spider walk
Sharpen pencils with manual sharpener
stretch breaks
 Wall slides
Wear heavy backpack throughout the day
 Crush paper into a tight ball
Move trash can to another location
 Bounce on a therapy ball
Carry basket of items
 Jump on a mini-trampoline
Make deliveries to the office
Squeeze stress balls or fidget toys
Keep your mouth working hard
Cut heavy paper or cardboard with scissors
with these mouth tools:
 Chew straws or coffee stirrers

Movement Activities  Chew on gum or, if allowed

 Chew on fish tank tubing


Sit in a rocking chair when reading or during floor time  Chew on licorice or twizzlers
Sit on an inflated air cushion placed on a chair or floor  Sip water through a sports bottle
Hand out papers and materials for the teacher  Suck on hard candy or lollipops
Push your feet into theraband placed around chair legs  Such applesauce through a straw
Do head, neck and shoulder rolls while sitting  Each crunchy foods— Dutch pretzels
Take a stretch break after sitting for a long time or carrots

 Mints make us more alert!


Breath deeply— in through your nose/out through your mouth
