Lab 1.1: Access Online Lab
Objective:
Start your virtual machines and verify that your lab environment is ready to use.
Lab Information:
Use the information in the table as a guideline for the lab.
Files None
Scenario In this lab, you will verify your connectivity and log in to the following virtual
machines:
• PDC – Primary Domain Controller
• NSPMGR – Network Security Manager
Refer to the above Table for network and default login credential information.
If you have any technical issues accessing your lab, bring it to the attention of
your instructor.
Refer to the task and step table for detailed instructions to complete the lab.
1 1 Use web browser and connect to the McAfee Training Portal using the URL that your
instructor provided to you. Next, you should see a screen like the example below.
Run VMs
Suspend VMs
Make sure you allow pop-ups for the training page URL. Otherwise, the console screen
may not launch.
1 2 Once the VMs have powered up, click the NSPMGR system to access it.
Note: It may take a few minutes for the virtual machine to power ON.
1 3 You should see a console of a machine as the image below. Click the arrow on the top
of the screen to pull down the toolbar for Skytap.
Note: All virtual machines will not have this same console screen.
1 4 Click Ctrl-Alt-Del.
1 5 At the Windows login prompt, enter the password as “mcafee123!” for user John Q.
Smith. From this console screen you can begin your labs exercise.
Clipboard Copy and paste text between your local machine and the VM
Change Resolution Change the VM screen resolution to a list of screen resolution sizes.
Network Quality Display the quality of the browser connection to the VM or change
Indicator the display quality to improve performance.
1 7 Notes:
• You may be prompted to restart the system. Please restart and log in again.
• Closing the browser tab will not shutdown the virtual machine or close the
desktop session. Click CONSOLE to re-open a new browser tab and reconnect
to the session.
• PDC - This machine hosts Domain Control, DNS, e-mail server, and some of
the reporting capabilities in the classroom. Students don’t need to connect to
this machine directly.
