1. When the two resistances R1 and R2 are connected in parallel, they dissipate four
times the power that they dissipate when they are connected in series with the
same ideal source of emf. If R1= 3 Ω, find R2. [Ans: 3 Ω ]

2. Calculate the values of two resistances which when connected in series gives 50
Ω and 8Ω when in parallel. [Ans: 10Ω, 40Ω]

3. An electric heater takes 15 A at 220 V. It is desired to reduce the current to 10 A.


Find the resistance which must be connected in series. [Ans: 7.33 Ω]

4. Calculate the effective resistance of the following combination of resistances


between points A and B (see Figure 1). [Ans: 10.6 Ω]

5. In the circuit shown, the total power dissipated is 448 W. Determine the current
