PHYSICS WORKSHEET
STD: XII ELECTRIC CHARGERS AND FIELDS - 02

1. Define electric flux. Write its S.I unit.

2. State Gauss's law in electrostatics.

3. A balloon of radius 10 cm has inward flux of -1 × 103 Nm2 C -1. What will be the flux if the
radius of the balloon is doubled?

4. Charges of magnitude 2Q and -Q are located at the points (a, 0, 0) and (4a, 0, 0). Find the flux
of the electric field due to these charges through the concentric spheres of radii 2a and 8a
centred at the origin.

5. What is the electric flux through a cube of side 1 cm which encloses an electric dipole?

6. Represent graphically the variation of electric field E with a distance r for a uniformly charged
plane sheet.

7. A sphere S1 of radius r1 is enclosed with a charge Q. If there is another concentric sphere S 2 of

radius r2>r1 and there be no additional charge between S1 and S2. Find ratio of electric flux
through S1 and S2.

8. Two concentric spherical shells of radii R and 2R are given charges Q 1 and Q2 respectively.
The surface charge densities of the outer surfaces are equal. Determine the ratio of Q 1: Q2.

9. A spherical Gaussian surface encloses a charge of 8.85 × 10 -8 C. Calculate the electric flux
passing through the surface.

10. A uniformly charged conducting sphere of 2.4 m diameter has a surface charge density of
180 × 10-6 C/m2. (i) Find the charge on the sphere. (ii) What is the total flux leaving the surface
of the sphere?

11. An infinite line charge produces a field of 19 × 104 N/C at a distance of 5 cm. Calculate the
linear charge density.
