You are on page 1of 2

You can produce 95% on that still with lower than 1000w if you run it correctly.

For a proper run, do the following:

1. Close output valve, turn on coolant flow.

2. Start heat up. When your thermometer warns you that you are at temp, start
your timer.
3. Leave it in full reflux mode for 90 minutes, at a stable
input temperature wattage. Your head temp will bounce all over the place, until
eventually settling down. You want rock solid temp before continuing.
4. Slowly bleed your fores off. Crack the valve, and drip out around 50-100ml.
Your temp will rise a few tenths degrees doing this.
5. Close the output valve, let equilibrate for 5-10 minutes.
6. Open the valve a bit more this time, bleeding off the heads. You want to keep
an eye on your temps and make sure they do not make any radical changes. It will
rise .1-.2 or so during this phase. You want to shoot for around 500ml an hour rate.
7. Taste your output periodically. When it seems like you are close to done with
the heads, close the output valve. Let equilibrate for 5-10 minutes again.
8. Open the valve more this time, you are at late heads, and early hearts here.
You can run as fast as you can here, as long as the temp stays stable. If the temp
changes at all, you are running too fast. Close up, let sit for a bit, and open back up
at a slower rate.
9. When your temp starts to spike a bit, close it up for a few minutes, than take
off slower. You want to squeeze as much hearts out as you can, you'll have to keep
raising your reflux ratio (slowing down take off) to keep hearts until you can't
anymore. At this point you are done, run off the tails or end your run and dump
everything.

Some tips: make sure your column is as perfectly vertical as you can make it. Use a
level.

Do not use a parrot for your spirit run. It causes smearing, you can have heads
linger in there into your hearts. Go by temperature, and measure ABV periodically
with a test jar and alcoholmeter.

Reflux centering rings can help bump up your ABV. Search homedistiller for many
ideas on that.

Make sure your packing isn't too tight.

Input temperature won't be a huge concern until you are too low or too high.
Anything in the 800-2300w range should work fine. My longest and cleanest runs
have been at 1250w, but it takes too damn long so that is rare.

20 ml/min = ok. 2000 w
