Lines Plan
System of Coordinates
Lines Plan
 Lines plan shows the hull form of a vessel.
 It consists of projections of the
intersection of the hull with a series of
planes.
 The planes are equally spaced in each
of the three dimensions.
 These set of planes are mutually
perpendicular or orthogonal in nature.
Lines Plan
 A lines plan consists of three views:
1. Half-Breadth Plan view (a top-down view
of the vessel, with waterlines).
2. Profile view/Sheer Plan (a side-view of
the ship, with buttock lines).
3. Body plan view (a transverse view from
the ends of the vessel, with station lines).

Stations are labeled from 1 to 10, with 0 being the AP and

10 being the FP. Half-stations may be added in areas of
notable curvature, to give a better definition of the lines.
The stations are evenly spaced, Being referenced between
the perpendiculars. As such, they don't necessarily align to
frame spaces.
The advent of computerized hull modelling software makes it
easy to define a large number of stations. Rather than
running from the AP to the FP, the stations can be placed at
each frame.

Offset Table
 A table of offsets is a chart of measurements which, when
read in conjection with the lines plan, describe a vessels
hull form. The chart contains heights above baseline and
half-breadths.
 Heights Above Baseline
 Distances above the baseline are given for the intersection
of buttocks lines and the station spacing.

 Half Breadths
 Distances from the centreline are given for the intersection
of waterlines and the station spacing.
