WELCOME PARENTS

I am Ms. Nicosia

I am a first-year teacher. I graduated from Texas Tech with a degree in Mathematics. I believe math is its
own language, I want to help my students learn the language of math.

Some procedures I have for the students, so every student has the opportunity to learn are:
1. Be prepared for class each day
a. Come prepared with all materials necessary:
b. An organized class binder containing all necessary materials and handouts
c. Loose-leaf paper, pens (blue or black), and pencils
d. A red or purple pen for grading in class or underlining important elements in note taking
e. Highlighters for emphasizing important text
f. A planner to help keep you organized - the most successful students are organized.
2. Respect yourself, the teacher & others
a. Show respect for the teacher, yourself, and others at all times.
b. Respect others’ property.
c. Avoid touching or writing on anything that does not belong to you (including desks, textbooks,
teacher’s belongings, walls, chalkboard, etc.).
d. Do not expect that others will clean-up your messes.
e. Please pick-up after yourself.
f. Respect yourself and the rest of us by using appropriate language and wearing appropriate
clothing.
g. Be a kind person.
3. Turn off cell phones & electronic devices
a. Electronic devices (CD players, iPod, handheld games, mini-TVs or personal DVD players, cell
phones, pagers, etc.) are NOT permitted in my classroom.
b. Cell Phones should be turned off and invisible during the class period. If I see or hear your phone
it will be taken away and given to an administrator. Refusal to turn over the cell phone will be
treated as insubordinate behavior.
c. This ensures that every student has the same opportunity to learn,

Grading rules:

There are 4 Nine weeks. The fall semester has 2 Nine weeks, and the spring semester has 2 nine weeks.
Semester grades are based off of an average of the two nine weeks grades and the final.

I will accept late work up to 1 week after it is assigned. Each day not turned in; I will dock 5 pts from the
total grade.

Any missing work will be put into the gradebook as a 50.

Students can make up test grades or daily assignment grades. There will be certain days where students
will be able to make test corrections. I will announce these. During the 9 weeks, students can resubmit
any assignment and I will take the higher of the two grades.
