Have you ever been afraid?

Sam’s early years were unstable and filled with fear. He was born to a mother who was
just 12 years old. Growing up, he never knew who his father was and ended up living with
his grandmother. Sam was sexually abused for years. The place he should have felt the safest
became a nightmare, and drugs became his escape.

You gave Sam a safe place to call home.

Eventually, he came to Vera Lloyd because of his addiction and difficult behavior and
stayed several times during his teenage years. Over those years, music became a new escape
for him. With love and support, Sam began to see that there was a life on the other side of
addiction. He came to realize that he didn’t need that “fix” to feel loved.

You showed Sam he was loved.

Years after leaving Vera Lloyd, Sam still keeps up with staff on campus. He has been
happily married for 10 years now and has 4 great kids. He is a minister of music for a church
in Little Rock. Vera Lloyd is where he met some of the most influential people in his life;
people who walked with him and brought him through the pain of his childhood. Happy,
successful and clean from addiction, Sam said confidently:

“I finally know what is it to be free from fear.”

from the fear that holds them back from reaching their full potential.

Youth read books to gain a love
of reading and increase Express Yourself Art Class
their reading levels. Set to music, this art class
is designed to help youth
understand and express
their feelings.

Real World Science Lab

Field trips to Lake Chicot teach
youth about plants, history
and ecosystems.

Culture Simulator
Youth learn about different
countries from around the Math Mysteries
world- languages, local food, Mystery games, creative
crafts and traditions. problem solving and real life
applications will offer a fun way
to improve math skills.

Epic End of Summer Pool Party

Summer Enrichment ends with
a fun party to celebrate all of the
progress the youth have made.
