Sam’s early years were unstable and filled with fear. He was born to a mother who was
just 12 years old. Growing up, he never knew who his father was and ended up living with
his grandmother. Sam was sexually abused for years. The place he should have felt the safest
became a nightmare, and drugs became his escape.
Eventually, he came to Vera Lloyd because of his addiction and difficult behavior and
stayed several times during his teenage years. Over those years, music became a new escape
for him. With love and support, Sam began to see that there was a life on the other side of
addiction. He came to realize that he didn’t need that “fix” to feel loved.
Years after leaving Vera Lloyd, Sam still keeps up with staff on campus. He has been
happily married for 10 years now and has 4 great kids. He is a minister of music for a church
in Little Rock. Vera Lloyd is where he met some of the most influential people in his life;
people who walked with him and brought him through the pain of his childhood. Happy,
successful and clean from addiction, Sam said confidently:
Because of your love and support, vulnerable, abused and neglected children can be freed
from the fear that holds them back from reaching their full potential.
Will you please make a gift to Vera Lloyd’s youth and families? We need your help to provide
the counseling, tutors and care that they need to heal and thrive.
Thanks to you, youth like Sam can find true freedom and hope.
Sincerely,
