Quarter 1 Goal Setting sheet

Rationale: At the end of quarter 1, we will be meeting in conference to discuss your Practice, Product and
Progress. These are the elements that will make up your report card mark. In order to look at your
progress, you need to set a goal, which is a bit difficult in Q1 as I don’t really know your ability.

Instructions: Based on what you feel you need to work on, I would like you to set a goal for yourself.

 Do you think you should read more? Set a goal of reading more pages per week.
 Are you not so good at inferencing (reading between the lines)? Set a goal to get an A on our
novel unit.
 Are you shy in class? Make a goal of speaking out more in discussion.

This quarter, we will be continuing our silent reading, doing a small book talk activity, reading a novel
and presenting about theme. Take those ideas and write a GOAL and a PLAN below. Keep these in your
notebook and think about it as we go. Then bring it to our conference. Over the next couple of days, I
will be checking these. Try and be specific in your writing.
