Questions

-What do you mean by the synthesis of polymeric films?

We will combine starch, glycerol and citric acid to produce a polymeric film. The eggshell
powder will serve as a mechanical enhancer as it is added to the process.

-Why use eggshell and what is its reaction with the components

Si eggshell powder is a good candidate as a filler for bioplastics. FTIR indicated the
bioplastic/PCC composites were hydrophilic and the addition of PCC reduced the hydrophilic properties
by damaging the hydrogen bonding between starch molecules and water.

-WHY POLYMERIC FILMS

Because polymeric films are widely used in packaging. While in the Philippines, Filipinos use
more than 163 million plastic sachet packets, 48 million shopping bags and 45 million thin film bags
daily. These numbers were revealed in a new report released by environmental organization Global
Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA) on March 2019. Para kahit papaano, masolusyonan ang
plastic waste sa bansa.

-How can you make sure that the process will be successful?

-What will be your final output?

The final output would the biopolymer films with eggshell powder.

-Standard method for UTM and FTIR

Sa utm po may standard method which is ASTM D882 kasi po ito po yung standard for films.

-Repeatability and reproducibility

Yung study naman po namin kahit sino pwede magproduce since di naman sobrang harmful ng
mga raw materials like starch, citric acid and glycerol. Tsaka walang catalyst na chemical or strong acids
since heat naman po ang nagsspeed up ng process sa bioplastic naming.

-What will be the control group?

The control would be a biopolymeric film with no eggshell powder. The measurements would be
40% of citric and glycerol each and 20% of starch.

-Design, Placement and Measurement

The dimension of the sample is 15 mm in width, length in 200 mm and thickness is 6 micro
meters. It will be placed on the glass plate once all processes are done.
-List the material needed with a measurement on each sample

The materials are beaker, laboratory thermometer, glass plate, hot plate, oven, stirring rod,
anhydrous citric acid, liquid glycerol, eggshell powder and potato peel

-Your purpose in this research is for?

To lessen plastic waste in the environment by introducing a biopolymeric film that would
withstand high force and can be used for a long time.

-Why did you choose your materials?

First of all, these materials are readily available most especially in our case, access on chemicals
are difficult due to the pandemic. We want to make our materials environmentally friendly since these
materials lessen the emission of harmful chemicals.

-What kind of experimental design are you having?

We will use taguchi design of optimization to reduce samples.

-How can you say that polymerization will occur in glycerol and citric acid?

FTIR would check if the ester bonding occurs therefore forming long chains of glycerol and citric
acid product which is a thermoset polymer.

-Is Taguchi method the most suitable as your DOE? Why?

Yes, since the study will have 2 trials and 9 samples to be experimented. Traditional methods in
experimental data would cost us 81 experiments before knowing the optimal sample. By the use of
taguchi, we can limit the experimental run into 9 and 2 trials which will have a total of 18 runs.

-How can you say that your experiment is feasible?

With the support of existing studies about biopolymers and the use of eggshell fillers, the study
is feasible. although time consuming, IT IS POSSIBLE TO PRODUCE EXISTING STUDIES STATE THAT THE
CHEMICALS USED IN OUR STUDY HAVE INTERACTIONS WITH EACH OTHER.

-What statistical data will you use?

The statistical data that we will use is Anova which will be seen also in minitab.

Why glycerol and citric acid

Kasi po gusto naming maprove na by the use of these chemicals pwede pang maimprove yung
mechanical properties since si glycerol compared to other plasticizers have less mechanical property.
We used citric acid since sya yung mas compatible with glycerol to produce a thermoset polymer.
