1. Why did Rizal come-up with a proposal on writing a novel about the
Philippines?
 Because he noted that Filipinos were practically an unknown
nation. They were mistaken for Chinese in Spain and Japanese in
Paris.

2. Why it did not materialized?


 It did not materialized because those who were expected to
collaborate with Rizal did not write anything , many of his fellow
Filipinos were indifferent to project since they were more interested
to write about women.

3. How did the Filipinos react to Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere?


 The book is superior and heretical, impious and scandalous in its
religious aspect: unpatriotic, subversive of public order, and
offensive to the government of Spain.

Points to Ponder

1. Do the content of Noli Me Tangere still evident up to these days?


 Yes, the novel was still evident these days because many people
still fighting colonialism. Not just only in the Philippines but also in
the other countries. High power countries dominating other
countries like it’s their own yard
2. What do you think was the purpose of Rizal in writing Noli Me Tangere?
 To awaken the Filipinos awareness about the wrongful doings of
the Spaniards and to established the grounds for independecy.

our time.
1. Juan Crisostomo Ibarra – An idealistic young man who want to improve the
country and believe in the power of education.
2. Elias – A person who willing to help his friend no matter what and showing his
gratitude and devotion for its country
3. Sisa – a mother who have an unending love for her siblings and care too much
but submissive.
