To whom it may concern:

I am pleased to write a letter of reference for Amy Sauers, a practicum teacher at Senator Gershaw
under my supervision. I have known Amy for the duration of her combined PSII and PSIII internship.
Amy’s classload included ELA 6, ELA 7, and Eng 20-1/2. It is on the basis of this extensive experience that
I write a letter of unequivocal support.
Amy showed a commitment to serving her students by continually educating herself on not only the
division’s current literacy push through training in HLAT and Maps testing but also working with our
instructional coaches and our FMNI support person in order to give her students the latest teaching
strategies to succeed.
Teaching in multiple grade levels in different divisions takes a special kind of teacher – the ability to
teach not only to the individual grade levels and also interact and teach a number of grades and
comprehension levels at once in a classroom takes strong teaching ability – to which Amy has been very
successful.
Amy’s commitment to diversify and advocate for the success of all students can be seen in her ability to
read her student’s Map levels and then apply strategies to each individual student for them to achieve
success in their classroom setting and advance on the literacy scale.

Amy is an enthusiastic, energetic, and exceptionally well-organized teacher. She is an active listener, is
widely read, and demonstrates good quantitative skills. Amy is constantly reading educational teaching
strategy books and is willing to experiment with those strategies to see if they can enhance her
students' learning through differentiation.

I have been especially impressed by Amy’s determination and sparkle. Her ability to face each day with a
smile and commute over an half hour away each day to teach in the rural setting is extraordinary. Amy
applied her skill of technology in the classroom to engage her students in areas that normally students
find difficult.

Amy is a rare find. She is well-trained, ambitious, and yet very open-minded and even self-effacing. I
believe she will be successful wherever she ends up.

I recommend her very highly and without reservation.

Sincerely,
Dwayne McKay
Vice Principal
Senator Gershaw School / Bow Island Elementary School
