Function of Communication
Regulation and Control
1. A mother regulating his son to avoid talking when he is eating, to avoid
choking, and vomiting.
2. A proctor telling the students to keep quiet while taking the exam, to avoid
distractions.
Social Interaction
1. The 7th birthday of a young boy with a small celebration in their house and
was visited by his godmother, godfather, and other relatives, they had known
each other more with that interaction.
2. A family reunion happens in a house of their oldest relatives, the
grandchildren visited their grandparents, some of them don’t know them yet,
so it’s a great opportunity for them.
Motivation
1. The priest in a church motivates the listeners to praise God and love Him,
even if you become a sinner, have faith in Him.
2. A talk of mother and child, where the mother lecturing the child to never
revenge on someone has done badly for you.
Information
1. A weatherman in a TV broadcast where they tell the audience what is the
weather forecast for the day and the following days.
2. An advertisement on a TV, that is to inform the audience to have social
distancing, keep clean, and stay at home.
Emotional Expression
1. A group of friends, looking at the memorable pictures of their deceased
friend.
2. A parent receiving a picture of what happen to his son in a war.

Communicative Strategies
Nomination
1. A reunion of elementary students where they are all grown up and 1 of them
host the conversation by saying how are they.
2. A group of friends hanging out in a food stall, one of them hosts the
conversation by updating them on their social life.
Restriction
3. A group of students brainstorming about a topic, one is saying too much and
one cannot say much more information.
4. In a conversation with a group of friends, one is so much talkative where
others can’t say they want to say.
Turn-taking
5. A teacher lecturing the students, where she tells “What do you think about a
certain topic?”.
6. After the teacher finished their lecture, he told a student if he wants to say
something about the topic.
Topic-control
7. A meeting where there is a presenter, then, he needs some suggestion to the
audience. The audience will answer briefly and not like saying so many
words like talking with your friends.
8. In a hangout with friends, we can talk as much as we want and in an
informal manner.
Topic Shifting
9. After brainstorming with a group of friends, one of them says, “By the way,
when will we hang out at your house?”.
10.A mother lecturing his son about the accident that injured her son, and her
son doesn’t want to stop crying, then the mother shifts the topic into they
will eat in Jollibee for lunch.
