DESCRIPTION
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
DCS 2.5 brought major changes and the Caucasus map
overhaul, now with over exposed image and (yellow-ish)
saturated tones. Likes and dislikes, there's no consensus.

The CGTC mod is my atempt to bring back rougher, more


complex ground textures, and less saturated, more natural
overall tones to the Caucasus map. It's heavily inspired in
the old PMTC mod, a compilation of textures for DCS 1.5.

For CGTC v2, the main ground textures are now based on
PMTC v2.3, with winter ones based on PMTC v2.2.
The remaining ground textures (trees, fields, towns,
mountains, airfields surroundings, etc) have been redone,
so that all matches as one package into the four seasons
of the Caucasus map in DCS 2.5.

KNOWN ISSUES
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The fields in DCS 2.5 work differently than in DCS 1.5, now
all field's textures “mix” regardless, whereas before were
“standalone”. It's problematic to select colors and patterns
for the fields, as it all blends like milk in a cup of coffee.

So, with this said, the choice of colors used for the fields
was the best I found for overall matching collors, there's no
more “lemon yellow” color problems, and it looks nice but...
there's a catch. The distant textures were not modified, so
at very far distances you'll see visual hints of fields looking
like defaults. It'll depend on how much you can ignore this.

The size of textures is similar to stock DCS (4K/2K for


“HIGH” and 2K/1K for “LOW”), so lack of definition when
on ground or at low altitudes can still occur.
To counteract this, some ground textures were sharpened,
and a strong “noise” for very low altitude is used in a much
wider pattern. ...still, no magic bullet.

Sure, 16K and 8K textures can technically be used, but


VRAM usage then is insane. So, not a choice.
• This mod was tested and made compatible with DCS
WORLD 2.5.6 (as of this date, 2.5.6.52437 stable release).

• Not tested, but may also work with Open Beta releases, as
well as previous versions of DCS 2.5.

• All of the texture replacements (included are High and


Low resolution ones) have similar format and size as
defaults, so performance is identical.

• As usual with this type of mod, it will only work in


Multiplayer if on servers with disabled integrity check.

INSTALLATION, USAGE AND RELATED NOTES

I suggest to first uninstall any terrain mods for the
Caucasus map, and revert back to the original map files.
The same applies for shader mods (as it can affect colors).
This is to avoid likely unintended results.

I strongly recommend to use a mod manager (such as


JSGME or OvGME), because it's much easier and quicker
to revert things back at any time (for whatever reasons).

But if you prefer to install this mod manually, then all you
need to do is to extract (or copy/paste) the content from
the downloaded package into your main DCS installation
folder, and overwrite files when prompted. ...That's it.

NOTE: In this last case, you may wish to make a manual


backup of files before proceeding with it.
If unsure of what files to backup, then check in the last
page of this document the list of overwritten file packages

------------- Recommended in-game settings --------------

For the best use of this mod, I highly suggest to go into the
OPTIONS menu and change the following settings:

- "TERRAIN TEXTURES" ---- set at "HIGH"


(use "LOW" if using a GPU with 4GB VRAM or less)

- "GAMMA" ---- set at 1.5 as a base line adjustment


(change as desired, suggest a min/max range from 1.2 to 1.8)

Please note that if you're updating your DCS installation


and have this mod installed, then make sure that you're
using the TERRAIN.CFG.LUA from this mod package, and
not the one that DCS replaces when it does an update.
Otherwise, this mod will not work as intended.
