A. Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to revise the grammatical points that they’ve already
learnt in English ten:

- Past simple and present perfect tenses.


- Passive voice.
- Conditional sentences type 1 and 2.
- Relative clause.

B. Procedure:

2. Tenses in English 10:

a. The past simple tense:


? What is the structure?

- S + V(past) + O
? When could you use this tense?

- To describe an action that happened and finished absolutely in the past.


? Which adverbs often go with this tense?

- Yesterday, the day before yesterday, last (week/ month/ year/ Monday…), (two
hours/ a week…)ago…
? Example?

- I went to the movie last night.


- There was a film on TV two hours ago.
b. The present perfect tense:
? What is the structure?

- S + have/ has + V(p2) + O.


? When could you use this tense?

- To describe an action that:


Has just happened.

Happened in the past but the result is still at present.


Happened in the past but is still continuing at present.

Has ever happened in the past once or several times in the past but the time of action
is not mentioned (The speaker and listener only pay attention to the experience, not
its time of happening) .

3. Passive voice.

? What is the form?

Active:S + V + O

Passive: S + be + V(p2) + by A

? When is passive voice used?

- When the speaker wants to emphasize/ refer to the action (not to the doer).
? Give me an example?

- A letter was written to my friends yesterday.


4. Conditional sentences type 1 and 2:

a. Conditional sentence type 1:


? When could you use the Conditional sentence type 1?

- To refer an ability that will be happen if something happens.


? What is the structure?

- S + will/ shall + V + O + If + S + V(s/ es) + O.


Main clause (simple future) If clause (simple present)

? Example?

- I will go out if it is sunny tomorrow.


b. Conditional sentence type 2.
? When could you use Conditional sentence type 2?

- to refer something that is not real in the present/ in the future.


? What is the structure?

- S + would/ could/ should + V + O + If +S + V(past) + O.


? Give me example?

- I would buy a car if I had enough money.


5 Relative clauses:
? What is a relative clause?

- A relative clause (or an adjective clause) is a cluase modifying a N preceeding it.


? Tell me relative pronouns and relative adverbs in English?

- Relative pronouns: who, whom, which, that, whose.


- Relative adverbs: where, when, why.
? Give me some examples using relative clauses?

- He is my friend who is very good at English.


- Auld Land Syne is a song which is always sung on New Year’s Ever.
- Do you know the girl whose father is our teacher?
- I have always wanted to visit the place where Shakespeare was born.
- Can you tell me the reason why you look so sad?
C. Homework:

1. Make 5 sentences using conditional sentences type 1.


2. Make 5 sentences using conditional sentences type 2.
3. Learn by heart the grammatical points you’ve just revised.

- get to know the topic, vocab about the generation gap and family rules
- express their own opinions about the likes and dislikes in their type of family.

- Write the title of the unit THE GENERATION GAP on the board and ask ss to list some
examples to show the gap between different generations in their family.

- Call on some ss to present their ideas and give comments.

- Summarize some popular things and lead in the new lesson.

II. NEW LESSON

1. Vocabulary

- Extended family : gia đình đa hệ (expla)

- Nuclear family: gia đình hạt nhân (expla)

- Childcare (n): chăm sóc con cái (trans)

- Table manners: cung cách

- Viewpoint (n) = opinion: quan điểm

* Checking vocab: Complete the following sentences, use the highligted compound nouns in
the vocab part above.

- Ask ss to work individually the task.

- Have ss read through the sentences, explain if there is any new words.
