Q1. A linear time invariant system is characterized by the system function
3 − 4𝑧 −1
𝐻(𝑧) =
1 − 3.5𝑧 −1 + 1.5𝑧 −2
Specify the ROC of 𝐻(𝑧) and determine ℎ(𝑛) for the following conditions:
(a) The system is stable.
(b) The system is causal.
(c) The system is anticausal.

Q2. The pole-zero diagram of a stable discrete-time LTI filter is shown below. Plot roughly the

z-1

0.9 2 +
z-1

(a) Compute the first six samples of its impulse response.

(b) Find the input-output relation.
(c) Apply the input 𝑥[𝑛] = {1,1,1, … . . } and compute the first six samples of the output.
(d) Compute the first six samples of the output for the input given in (c) by using
convolution.

Q4.
(a) Determine the N-point DFT of the following length-N sequence defined for 0 ≤ 𝑛 ≤
𝑁 − 1: (Show all details)
2𝜋𝑛
𝑥[𝑛] = cos 3 ( )
𝑁
(b) Compute the circular convolution of the two sequences:
𝑔[𝑛] = {1, 2, 3, 1}, ℎ[𝑛] = {4, 3, 2, 2}
(c) Write a Matlab program to compute the circular convolution in part (c) using the DFT-
based approach. Modify the program to compute the linear convolution between
sequence 𝑔[𝑛] and ℎ[𝑛] based on the DFT technique.
