Introduction
Imperial chemical industries, a British multinational in the then East Pakistan which was
converted into a company after liberation, named ICI Bangladesh Manufacturers limited. In
1992 ICI divested its investment in Bangladesh to the Management, when its name was
changed to Advanced Chemical Industries Limited (ACI).

The incorporation date of ACI limited was 24 January 1973. It is public limited company. The
number of employees are 9,147. Authorized capital is 150, 00,00,000.Number of shares are 5,
73,72,955. The board of directors are MR .M Anis UD Dowla( chairman), MR .Golam

Advanced Chemical Industries (ACI) Limited, being one of the largest conglomerates in

Domestic Market

ACI has been motivated by the need for pure food in the minds of consumers, especially in the
commodity food industry, to meet market demand by producing food products. Under the
PURE and FUN brand names, ACI Foods Limited is engaged in the manufacture, marketing,
and distribution of food products and condiments. Practically simple spices, mixed spices,
cereals, edible oil, snacks and confectionary categories comprise our portfolio. Being a
developing country, the pharmaceutical market and at the same time, the pharmaceutical
industry of Bangladesh is growing. In the growing market, ACI has been able to maintain its
growth through its innovative marketing strategies. In Bangladesh, ACI introduced the concept
of quality management system by being the first company to achieve ISO 9001 certification
that reflects its commitment to quality in every aspect of business.ACI covers the health care
community of whole Bangladesh based in both urban and rural markets, through its 18
strategically located depot.

Being a developing country, the pharmaceutical market and at the same time, the
pharmaceutical industry of Bangladesh is growing. In this growing market, ACI has been able
to maintain its growth through its innovative marketing strategies. In Bangladesh, ACI
introduced the concept of quality management system by being the first company to achieve
ISO 9001 certification that reflects its commitment to quality in every aspect of business. ACI
covers the health care community of whole Bangladesh based in both urban and rural markets,
through its 18 strategically located depot. The pharmaceutical manufacturing plant is located
at Narayanganj, by the bank of river Shitolokkhya. It encompasses a land area of 11.5 acres
with 85,000 square feet covered area. 235 skilled persons are involved in the plant to produce
world class quality products.

With GMP certification from Kenya, Ivory Coast, and the Philippines, ACI is enriched. We
sell our pharmaceuticals to 30 countries on 4 continents. ACI now has 15 countries with

player in the global market. ACI Limited started exporting medicine in 1999. The quality of
ACI products, strengthened by its ISO 9001 certification, has brought immediate success in Sri

products with consistent quality under clearly defined Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

ACI HealthCare, a subsidiary of ACI Ltd, plans to take its pharmaceutical products to the US
market. ACI HealthCare will seek permission from the authorities to open a subsidiary in the
US, according to a web posting of the Dhaka Stock Exchange. The purpose of the subsidiary
will be to develop products and perform regulatory, marketing and distribution activities to
facilitate operations of the pharmaceutical plant of ACI in Sonargaon of Narayanganj. The
factory is being built following US Food and Drug Administration's specification. The plant
will manufacture products for domestic and global markets. Square Pharmaceuticals and
Beximco Pharmaceuticals recently got the US nod to export pharma products to its market.

ACI Agrolink has a cost effective solution for the agricultural advancement of the country.
This sub unit of ACI Agribusiness assists farmers by providing the necessary market linkage,
technological and advisory services when required. ACI Agrolink Limited,a subsidiary of ACI
Limited, aims to establish forward and backward linkage for farmers and agro value addition
industry. ACI Agrolink Limited is positioning the business throughpenetrating into integrated
safe food category and tapping intoglobal trade operation that would promote an efficient
distribution channel for safe and healthy food for the consumers of Bangladesh.
ACI Agrolink Limited has opened a new horizon in export business. With a strong commitment
of quality products, ACI Agrolink Limited is exporting agricultural products to global market
besides serving domestic consumers. The business is working according to Fair Trade
Principles. ACI Agrolink ensures the proper handling/ shipping techniques and transportation
requirements including chain of custody and cold chains; which are maintained for the
distribution of various agro products. The existing export destinations of our fresh vegetables
& other agro products such as sesame seed, castor seed, soybean seed, turmeric are China,
Malaysia, Turkey, Taiwan, Vietnam and UK. Exporting commodities are a result to open
markets for Bangladeshi agro products in local and global market.

ACI Agribusiness is the largest integrator in Agriculture and Livestock and Fisheries. These
businesses have subunits like Crop Protection, Seed, Fertilizer, Agrimachineries, and Animal

CC & PH supplies crop protection chemicals, Seed supplies Hybrid Rice, vegetable and Maize

ACI Agribusiness is having strong partnership with national and global R & D companies,
universities and research institutions. Before introducing any product, it is elaborately tested in
the laboratory and farmers field.

ACI Agribusiness has a large, knowledgeable and highly skilled Field Force provides training
and technical advices to the farmers.

ACI is significantly contributing to national food security through its Agribusinesses division,
which is the leading agricultural integrator of the country. ACI Agribusinesses is providing
complete solution to the farmers need. This division has five separate SBUs. They are Seeds,

ACI Godrej Agrovet Private Limited- A joint venture between ACI Ltd and Godrej India is
supplying day old chick and poultry, fish and cattle feed to the agriculture community of
Bangladesh.। ACI Godrej Agrovet Private Limited was established in 2004 under the
Companies Act 1994 as a joint venture of Godrej Agrovet Limited, a reputed company of the
Godrej Group and ACI Limited, Dhaka, a highly respected conglomerate in Bangladesh.

ACI pure brand: ACI has turned out Global market label product. As a result, they are exporting
products in the foreign market. Sell abroad Countries are the United Kingdom(UK), Kuwait, Bahrain,

AGRO Product: With a strong commitment of quality products, ACI Agrolink Limited is
exporting agricultural products to global market besides serving domestic consumers. The
business is working according to Fair Trade Principles. ACI Agrolink ensures the proper

SAVLON:

Savlon has been serving millions of households of Bangladesh for more than 4 decades. Savlon
Antiseptic Liquid & Cream contains two active ingredients: Cetrimide and Chlorhexidine
Gluconate, which were first discovered and developed by Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI).
Later in 1992, ACI Limited was formed which obtained the ownership of this brand. Due to
the presence of these two active ingredients, Savlon Antiseptic has been trusted around the
world to help clean wounds caused by cuts, abrasion, burns, insect bites, etc.

SHRIMP Export: ACI Agrolink, a subsidiary of Advanced Chemical Industries (ACI), has set
foot in shrimp processing to make a breakthrough in the global seafood market and take the
sector out of troubled waters. Bangladesh's shrimp exports have been on the wane since fiscal
2013-14 in the face of increased competition from countries such as India, Vietnam, and
Thailand, where low-priced vannamei shrimp are grown.
Import
Sonalika Tractor: ACI Motors is now marketing the various models of Sonalika tractor which
is 3rd leading position in India as well as the fastest-growing brand. Different models of
Sonalika tractor is sold by 25%to 30% down payment of the total amount of the tractor. The
rest of the amount is collected by 24 installments within 2 years with adding a service charge
from the customers. At the time of selling the tractor is registered in the name of ACI motors
so that the company can take the tractor from a customer if he failed to pay his installment.
After completing the installment customers can register this tractor in their own name at their
own cost.

ACI Motors has an agreement with Krishi Bank and Markentile Bank and Agrani Bank from
which customer can take the loan for buying tractor at an interest rate of 10% to 11 %

Power tiller: ACI Limited has introduced a high-quality Bull Power brand power tiller from
China. ACI Motor Sells its “Bull Power” Power tiller to the dealers both on cash and on credit.
The credit limit for the dealers starts from 80,000 takas to up to 70, 00000 depending on the
capability and reputation of the dealer.

Panasonic:

World-renowned electronics company Panasonic and ACI Limited have joined together to
bring the Panasonic Audio Visual products to Bangladeshi consumers. The association was
formally announced on the 16th of April through the launching ceremony in Bangladesh China
Friendship Conference Center. Under this arrangement with Panasonic regional office in
Singapore, ACI Consumer Electronics, a newly formed division in ACI Consumer Brands SBU
will market the Panasonic AV products in Bangladesh. Panasonic has a rich range of AV
products comprising of High Definition LCD and Plasma Television, Home Theatre system,
DVD and Blu-ray DVD player, Digital Still Camera & Camcorder. The LCD and Plasma TVs
are marketed under the Panasonic VIERA brand and the Cameras are marketed under the
LUMIX brand. For the easy-availability of these products to the customers, ACI Consumer
Electronics has already appointed 11 dealers inside Dhaka and 5 dealers outside, who will carry
the Panasonic products for display and sales purposes.

Dabur:

ACI Ltd has a Joint Venture with one of the leading companies of India, Dabur India as Asian
Consumer Care Ltd. Dabur has a long-range of food items that are distributed through the
channels of ACI Consumer Brands. These products are very popular in Bangladesh Market.
The food items are Dabur Honey, Dabur Chawanprush.Asian Consumer Care (Pvt.) Ltd. also
markets the personal care products of Dabur. The personal care products of Dabur are Dabur
Amla Hair Oil, Dabur Vatika Hair Oil, Vatika Shampoo, Dabur Vatika Face pack.

All these products of Dabur are already known to the customers through various satellite
channels and bringing good name for both Dabur and ACI.

Tetley Tea:

ACI Ltd also has a Joint Venture business with Tetley Tea of UK in the name of Tetley ACI
(Bangladesh) Limited. Tetley produces one of the finest quality Tea in various pack sizes, both
in the laminated pack and tea bags. It has been serving Bangladeshi consumers since 2003 with
its’ uniquely blended tea. Tetley tea has become a household name and demand for the product
is very high.
Paint:

ACI Formulations Limited started the distribution of the decorative products of AkzoNobel in
Bangladesh. In 2016, ACI started manufacturing all of the decorative products in its own
manufacturing facility, set up inside the ACI Formulations Factory, in Gazipur. Since 2017,
ACI started selling performance coatings products of AkzoNobel to cater to the growing
requirements of the market. These products include protective coatings, marine coatings, and
powder coatings, which are imported directly from India, Singapore, UK, and other countries
where AkzoNobel has its manufacturing plants. Currently, ACI FL, along with its business
partner AkzoNobel, is serving the Bangladesh market with global paints and coatings brands
under the banner of Global, Interpon, Dulux, and Duwel.

YAMAHA:

ACI Motors obtained a dealership of YAMAHA Motorcycles in 2016. Operating for 60 years,
YAMAHA, the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer, has been a leader in innovation; designing
championship-winning race technology bikes to economical and practical street bikes it has
won the heart of millions around the globe.

COLGATE:
Colgate Palmolive is doing business in Bangladesh with a wide range of products in the Oral
care category targeting different segments of the target market. It serves end-users with
different SKU sizes and variants. Overall, this brand has received tremendous response from
both its internal and external customers.

LASER:

Laser shaving products provide different ranges of razors and blades. It provides high-quality
shaving materials to the customers. The business is being operated nationwide with its several
ranges of products.

SC JONSON:

CI Consumer Brands also imports globally acclaimed home care products range from SC
Johnson. SC Johnson is one of the world’s leading makers of household brands. It is a company
with a heritage of 130-years, with a diverse range of trusted products used in households across

During 2014, the ACI company contributed Tk. 2.16 billion to the National exchequer in the
form of corporation tax, custom duty, and Value Added Tax (VAT) with 15.30 percent revenue
growth. This is equivalent to 17.52 percent of the company’s net revenue for the year 2014. In
the year 2015-16, ACI has registered a 22 percent growth in revenue from its operation
compared to 2014. Total revenue has increased to Tk. 14,567 million in 2015 from Tk. 12,319
million in 2014 with a net increase of Tk. 2,248 from both national and global operations. The
national exchequer of ACI was Tk. 2626 million during 2015. In FY2014-15, export stood at
3.39% and import was around 4% with 7.65% remittance growth. ACI group has a very
successful year in 2016-17 with revenue earnings of Tk. 47,668 million registering a growth
of 52%. The national exchequer amount was Tk. 3302 million for the ended year of 2017
contributed by ACT group in form of corporate tax, custom value and VAT. Bangladesh's
economy grew by 7.1% exceeding the 7.0% growth target and 6% growth trajectory because
of the industry and service sector. Export grew by 8.9% while import by 5.5% in FY 2016. The
remittance, however, ends up with a negative growth of 3% in the same year. 2017-18 has
been a challenging year for the ACI group. Due to the flood, ACI agriculture part hampered,
moreover company faced an adverse macroeconomic exchequer which impact the performance
of the company negatively. For the year ended 30 June 2018, the total revenue of ACI was Tk.
21,387 million which was Tk. 18,306 million from the comparative year. However, ACI and
its devoted team managed to increase the business by 18% over the previous year. Bangladesh's
economy grew 7.9% in FY 2017-18 along with export 5,.8% and import 25.2%. remittance
grew 17.9% during the same period. In the 2018-19 year, the company contributes Tk. 3770
million to the national exchequer and revenue growth was 17.30% at the year ended of 30 June
2019. Import, export rates are maintained in the fiscal year over some problems.
Recommendations
 Efficient negotiation skill: this skill should be developed for generating more profit.
The manger designated for this particular task should be efficient enough to accomplish
the work before the time frame.
 Accurately forecasting needed: a clear and distinctive idea to forecast cost and profit
is crucial. The company must build an organized format by which managers of all
department can make connection all the relevant activities accordingly.
 Service center for transporting: if the company can launch service center for its own
transport facilities, it can lessen unnecessary cost regarding the pool. Thus it can explore
the common drawbacks and can take steps.
 Proper segmentation of work: the file and folder should be stored in a nice manner so
that they can find out necessary regarding information in appropriate time. Accurate
segmentation will reduce the pressure of all works.
 Need effective training facilities: for ACI administration employees, more training
program and workshop should be arranged. By this kind of training program employee
will learn new things and that’s how they will be updated thus will improve their skill.
 Proper utilization of resources: if the company can ensure the utilization of existing
resources well, it will surely get the peck of success.
 Communication improvement needed: the administration works as the figure head of
the organization and are considered as blood circulation of activities. If object
communication is ensured, they will manage more proficiency.
 Time skill management: the effective utilization of time and other resources should
be confirmed and managed in a decent way thus the rate of productivity will be
developed. Timely decorative work will emphasis the creativity of people.
 Motivation and utilization: the tools of motivation and functions should be formed
thus they can be motivated. If the work force is self- motivated and energetic enough,
they can ensure growth accordingly.
