“GENDER AND SOCIETY”

 ENGAGE

 Is language an important tool to create a friendly community? Explain comprehensively

-Definitely, Yes. Without language we can’t understand each other, which lead to have a tough life.
and also as what you’ve read above that, language is an important tool in communication, in order
for us to engage and understand in the society, on the other hand, language allows us to
connect/collaborate with other people in the society, wherein we share common interest, ideas,
feelings, and so on. In short, language has the power to build the society.

 How do you communicate when you are talking to a female, is there any difference when you are
communicating to a male? Please cite an example situation.

-By sharing our common interest, in which gives both of us a feeling of excitement, and so on.
Absolutely, Yes. Like for example, my brother, When I’m talking to my brother I felt nervous and
weird because he’s not responding to what I’d said and he’s sitting there quietly. And also when we
had a bonding at home with my sisters, his also quiet. I know that my brother is not interested of our
topic, but I believed that through his body gestures we can figure out what his trying to say.

 EXPLORE

 A college gay student was called by his classmate as “bayot” reacted that he should not be called
“bayot” and that calling him “bayot” is an insult to him. Is there any violation committed by his
classmates of calling him “bayot”?

-Yes, there is. Because the word “bayot” is already a form of discrimination, in which it indicated in
the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, it stated there that “Don’t discriminate”, means that
his/her classmate violated that human rights. Even if they’re like that, but they’ll human, they’ll had
feelings and role in the society, and so on. On the other hand, you should be aware of your own
words, because words may affect the person of who she/he is. Whatever our gender is all we need
to do is to accept, love, and most importantly respect them.

"Oh, Pretty Woman"

By Roy Orbison Lyrics

Pretty woman, walking down the street

Pretty woman, the kind I like to meet
Pretty woman
I don't believe you, you're not the truth
No one could look as good as you

Mercy

Pretty woman, won't you pardon me?

Pretty woman, I couldn't help but see
Pretty woman
That you look lovely as can be
Are you lonely just like me?

Wow

Pretty woman, stop a while

Pretty woman, talk a while
Pretty woman, give your smile to me
Pretty woman, yeah, yeah, yeah
Pretty woman, look my way
Pretty woman, say you'll stay with me

'Cause I need you, I'll treat you right

Come with me baby, be mine tonight

Pretty woman, don't walk on by

Pretty woman, don't make me cry
Pretty woman, don't walk away, hey...
OK

If that's the way it must be, OK

I guess I'll go on home, it's late
There'll be tomorrow night, but wait
What do I see?

Is she walking back to me?

Yeah, she's walking back to me
Oh, oh, pretty woman
 As what you’ve seen in the text, the underline word is the woman. I considered that as a violation
because the word woman is not the proper usage of language, wherein it can create a negative
impact to the society, on the other hand, people in the society may feel anger and so on. In short,
he should use the correct usage of language.
