Ques. 01.

In the given case study of Mr. and Mrs. Patel are suffering from poverty. Because they are living
in the deprived areas where there is a lack of basic wellbeing of the people, infrastructure, and
basic materials and also there was a lack of cultural benefits. The various factors which may
affect the health and wellbeing of the individuals, communities, and population in the given case
study are explained below.

 Culture

Education and Literacy:-There was a lack of education in Mr. and Mrs. Patel's family because
they are very poor and Mrs. Patel is working in the local supermarket. Due to this, we could say
that there is a lack of education in the Patel family. These factors may affect the health and
wellbeing of an individual. If there will be a lack of education then they cannot take care of their
health. This may also affect the communities and population in society.

The Income of the Family: - The income of Patel’s family is very low because all of his
children were in full-time education. Due to their, the low-income Mr. Patel cannot be taking
care of his family as much, so he has gone into depression. So these factors also affect the health
and wellbeing of an individual. The family has a lot of expenses rather than income.

Culture: - The place in which Patel’s family are living was the deprived areas where there is a
lack of culture, infrastructure, and social benefits. Mr. Patel’s family was living in such a poor
condition in London wherein there is a lack of infrastructure and culture and values. There was a
lack of culture people are not aware of the cultural wellbeing.
Social Environment: - Social environment is the place wherein the people of society live and
share their culture, values, and ethics. But in this case, there was not a good social environment
because when Mr. Patel was suffering from lung cancer none of the society members came for
help to take him to the hospital due to this he went into depression. So we can say that there was
a lack of good social environment conditions which affects the health and wellbeing of the
individuals and communities.

In the given case study there was the lack of various social wellbeing’s through which it is
affecting the health of individuals and communities which also affect Mr. Patel health condition
which gets suffered from lung cancer and later on gone into depression. The various factors
affect people's health such as poverty and low standard of living. Patel’s family was suffering
from all these factors due to which he cannot get proper treatment for lung cancer because they
were suffering from poverty. Above all are the various factors that may affect the health and
wellbeing of the individuals, communities, and population in the chosen case studies.

Health inequalities are the differences between the health of the people among the groups,
communities, or individuals. The life expectancy of the people depends upon the healthy
environment and good health of the people. In the case study, Patel’s family was suffering from
poverty due to which Mr. Patel's health was not good. Mr. Patel was suffered from lung cancer
and later on goes into depression due to their health condition. Because they don’t have enough
money to do better treatment and also the area wherein they were living was very backward and
lack of health facilities. Also, they are not having proper social support.

In the wider environment of society, people live and work the shapes of their individual
experiences depends upon the low income of the family, poor housing facility, discrimination in
society, and better health services of an individual.

This environment shapes individual experiences across the population and leads to inequalities in
health outcomes. The various health inequalities which impact the individuals are as explained
below.

 Long Term Health Condition

 Access & Experience

Life Expectancy: - Life expectancy is the major factor for health inequalities in individuals.
Inequality in life expectancy is one of the foremost measures of health inequality. It is related to
socio-economic circumstances. The life expectancy of Patel’s family is very high as at the age of
85 his mother was alive. So we can say that life expectancy makes an impact on an individual's
life.

Avoidable Mortality:-As we can say some death is avoidable in taking the preventive measure
of people. If Mr. Patel has taken care of himself then they do not have been suffered from lung
cancer. The mortality rate should be avoided due to the health facility and poor economic
condition he cannot get cured of lung cancer.
Long Term Health Condition: - According to the case, the health condition of Mr. Patel was
not good. He was suffering from lung cancer. The long-term health condition only is good if the
economic condition, the social environment of the family will be high. In the long term, Mr.
Patel's health condition was not so well although he has gone into depression due to the tension
of family. Due to the health condition, he left the job.

Mental illness:-Mental illness also affects individuals. If a person has a mental illness then he
also goes into depression. As in the given case, Mr. Patel has the mental illness of poor economic
condition of his family due to which he was suffering from lung cancer and gone in depression.

As in the given case study, the inequalities may impact the health condition of the individuals as
well as society. In this case, Patel’s family was living in deprived areas which means that there
are inequalities, discrimination of standard in the society due to this they were not living
correctly. So above all are the impacts due to which there the health inequalities are and which
have an impact on the individuals and Patel’s family.

The impact on poor health arises only when the person has a poor economic condition and also
they have a low standard of living. In the given, Mr. Patel has poor health due to the poverty and
low standard of living. Because in his family he was the one who is working in the local
supermarket and the expenses are more than earnings due to his children were studying. Due to
the poor health, he suffered from lung cancer. The potential impact of poor health on an
individual are as explained below.

Adverse Health Outcomes: - The impact of poor health may affect adverse health outcomes. In
the given case the Patel family was very poor due to this their health status was not so well.
Poverty leads down the people to adverse health outcomes as given in the case. If the economic
power is weak then the person gets proper and good medical treatment because of the lack of
money.

Reduce Economic Opportunities:-If the family status of the people is poor then it may reduce
the various economic opportunities. As in the case, Patel’s family was not getting proper
economic opportunities for their children. The economic opportunities should be reduced if an
individual does not have a high standard of living power. Mrs. Patel was also doing a part-time
job although there was a lack of economic opportunities in the family.

Inhibit Educational Attainment:-If the person have poor health status and low economic power
then they cannot get the higher education system. In Patel’s family, there was the inhibition of
educational attainment to their children due to the family condition. All of this depends upon the
economic condition of the family but in Patel’s family, there was a low standard living of their
family so their children were lacking better educational attainment.

Lower Income: - Lower-income also impacts an individual’s life. If a person has a low income
then they can get better food, better health facility, and better education. As in the case study,
Patel’s family has a lower income due to this they were not getting proper facilities for their
livelihood. Lower-income always may affect individual health and communities as well as
society.

According to these case studies it clear that there have been several impacts of poor health on the
individuals. Poor health may bring several diseases to a person's life. Mr. Patel was suffering
from lung cancer due to their poor health and low economic condition. If an individual has poor
health then they cannot enjoy and maintain their life because of their mental and personal illness.
So we can say that in the case study Mr. Patel’s family has several issues regarding health and
economic due to which he doesn’t get proper treatment for lung cancer and gone into depression.
These all are a potential impact on the individuals.
