PORTFOLIO
CAMILO BRAVO MOLANO
2020
I am Camilo Bravo Molano. I studied Film and Television in Bogotá at the Universidad Nacional de
Colombia. There I did writings and cinematographic projects with which I participated in several
national and foreign festivals, among them the Cartagena International Film Festival, The
International Light Festival in Bogotá, the BRIC art/project in Barcelona, and Genres seminar by
Robert Mckee s. Furthermore, aside from cinema I have dedicated myself to photographystudies.

During 2013 and 2014, together with a team of friends we started the Transeúntes channel, a project to
explain and disseminate the latest photography works of contemporary artists in Bogotá. The project
subsequently continued in Sao Paulo,Brazil.

In 2014 I did an exchange at the Universidade de Sao Paulo in Journalism to study journalistic
research methods, photojournalism and the Lusophoneculture.

In 2015 in Brazil, I started the “Terra Firma” project, an essay documentary film about urban, rural
and natural landscapes in South America. With this project I was awarded a scholarship to do an
exchange semester at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne KHM in winter 2016.

In September 2017 I made a photoreportage about a peasant community affected by the armed conflict in
Northern Paraguay. The same year, I began a Master's in Anthropology at the Universidade de Lisboa
where I continued studying the context ofParaguay.

Currently, I am studying a Master's in Film focussed on Documentary at the University of Fine Arts of
Hamburg HFBK.
ARROYITO
AGRICULTURE IN NORTHERNPARAGUAY
DocumentaryProject:

The conflict is taking place in a region at the border with Brazil. In the last fifty years, this region
was colonized by homeless farmers coming from little villages, Mennonites communities, and
Brazilian workers of the agroindustrial sector aiming at expanding their soybean and cattle businesses.
As a result, Paraguay is currently the sixth global producer of soybean despite the little size of the
country. For this reason, the native peasants are losing their traditional crops, the economic
policies of the goverment disregard their social model, the banks are appropriating their lands
and homes, and the companies are contaminating grounds, rivers and air with agrotoxics to
improve industrial production.
The guerrilla emerged a decade ago, as a popular army advocating the rights of the poor
people and the nature. As a solution, the government created a special army (FTC) and
allocated a huge budget for the provision of weapons, training and military intelligence.
But the outcomes of this strategy have been negative, they could not capture members of the
guerrilla, but because of political pressure the army started to attack farmers and
civil population to showcase positive results in national medias.
Medias in the region present Arroyito and its communities of the conflicted area as data rather
than as people, thus dehumanizing these inhabitants and affecting the perception around the
country and the way in governmental institutions receive the information and consequently
formulate solutions as mathematical results, rather than as human rights problems. This
documentary is about the community, to show the human life inside the conflict, to show
the human faces behind the numbers.
TERRA FIRMA Year: 2017
Format: Digital HD
Documentary Essay 60 min.
Direction: Camilo BravoMolano
Terra Firma is a documentary essay about South American landscapes. It is a journey in
search of the unknown borders through the territory of Terra Firma, an imaginary
continent that represents the historical development of cities and regions of South
America, whose capital city is built by the juxtaposition of images of Sao Paulo,
Buenos Aires , Rio de Janeiro, Lima, Bogotá and Santiago, the largest South American
cities.

The project began in 2014, the production was planned with an experimental model that
simultaneously allows researching, writing the script, and recording during the travel.
Thus, the routes were drawn: the first one traveled through Southern South America,
the second one through the Andean zone, and the last one through the Amazonian
rainforest. This research-creation was a rediscovery of South America, where
the landscapes contrasted with the ways of life of its inhabitants, as well as explore
the relationship between urbanizations -of colonial origin- and rural peripheralregions.
