PIPING SUPPORT PACKAGE CHECKLIST

 Verify that the data in the design folder are current.

 Verify that the checkprints have the “Checkprint” stamp.
 Verify that the piping stress analysis results are from the most current run.
 Verify that the support designs meet the intent of the piping stress analysis.
 Check that supports have been designed for the most severe combination of concurrent
loads plus 10%.
 Verify that the support designs are simple and economical as well as functional.
 Check that the support designs do not impose restrictions on the free movement of the
piping in unrestrained directions.
 Verify that the supports are not attached to bracing or other secondary members of the
structure, other piping, stairs, ladders, grating, cable trays or ductwork.
 Check that support designs do not infringe upon headroom and walkway and access
clearances. Check supports against piping, civil, structural, and electrical construction
drawings for interferences.
 Check that support designs do not impose torsional loading onto the structure or that the
Structural Engineer has approved designs if this is the case.
 Verify that any welded attachments to the piping have been designed in accordance with
ASME codes.
 Verify that supports have been designed for friction loads where appropriate.
 Check that support designs for insulated piping incorporate insulation protection saddles
or shoes and that they are of sufficient length to accommodate expected piping
movement.
 Verify that any variable springs specified agree with the piping stress analysis, that the
design load includes the weight of items supported by the spring, that the hot and cold
loads remain within the working range of the spring, and that variability does not exceed
25%.
 Verify that the swing angle for any rod hangers, sway struts, or snubbers does not exceed
4 degrees.
 Check that any pipe clamps specified have the rod attachment bolt external to any piping
insulation.
 Verify that support designs provide for shear lugs as appropriate.
 Verify that anchor bolts and base plates have been designed taking into account allowable
working loads, bolt spacing, concrete strength and thickness, embedment length, edge
distance, and ambient temperature.

PIPING SUPPORT PACKAGE CHECKLIST

 Verify that the Structural group has been informed of (and agrees to) support locations
requiring additional concrete footings.
 Verify that standard designs have been used wherever possible and that they have been
correctly specified on the log sheet.
 Verify that any special support details and their revision status are listed correctly on the
log sheets.
 On special details, verify line number, temperature, and reference drawing information.
 On special details, check north arrow and orientations.
 On special details, verify that the load and displacement data agrees with the piping stress
analysis results.
 On special details, check that the drawings provide complete fabrication details,
dimensional and weld size information.
 On special details, verify that acceptable materials have been specified.
 On special details, verify that the preferred structural component sizes have been used.
 On special details, verify that supplementary steel, welded joints, and bolted connections
have been designed in accordance with AISC.
 On special details, verify that welds have been sized in accordance with Work
Instruction 011.
 On special details, check that support designs allow for field fit-up.
 On special details, check that shop welds have been specified to the fullest extent
possible.
 On special details, verify that the supports are designed such that they cannot become
disengaged by movement of the piping.
 On special details, check the completeness and accuracy of the bills of material.
 On special details, verify that the completed drawings are in compliance with Design
Guidelines GLN-G132 and GLN-P250.
 Verify that the log sheet and support identification numbers (drawing numbers) are in
accordance with Design Guideline GLN-P250 conventions.
 Verify that the electronic drawing files are named and filed according to Design
Guideline GLN-G035 and GLN-G132 conventions.
 Check that the correct borders have been used.
 Verify drawing title/revision block information against the drawing register.
 Verify that verification checklists are included as appropriate and that all information is
correct.

 Verify that supports represented in the 3D model agree with the completed support
package. Inform the Lead Stress Analyst if the 3D model requires updating.
 Sign and date the checkprints and this checklist.
 Include this checklist in the design data folder and return the folder and checkprints to the
