This document presents a rubric for assessing global competence in business English as a lingua franca (BELF) textbooks. The rubric evaluates textbooks based on how well they develop four aspects of communicative competence from Canale and Swain's model: strategic competence, discursive competence, sociolinguistic competence, and multicultural competence. For each aspect, the rubric indicates whether the textbook includes activities to practice that competence and describes what should be practiced. It then compares this to dimensions of global competence from the OECD and Hofstede, indicating whether activities are included to develop each dimension.
