CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION & METHODOLOGY

1.1.BACKGROUND OF THE PROBLEM

1.2.RATIONALE OF THE STUDY

1.3.OBJECTIVE

a. To observe and record the frequency of each color of marbles and determine how many possible
combinations of colors that can be select.
b. To calculate the probability of randomly pick one marble from each color of marbles.
c. To write the exact sequence color for five marbles picked in ten and for each trial, record the
number marbles selected and write it in Table 1 under “Outcomes”.
d. To redo and write the exact sequence color for marbles picked up for 20 trials in Table 2 under
“Outcomes” ( Let the random variable X be the number of brown marble picked).
e. To find the probability of getting BROWN or GREEN marbles in the 20 trials.

1.4.METHODOLOGY

The experiment was conducted in THO. Firstly, the marbles were counted and separated in different
colour to calculate the possible combination of colour that can be selected. Then, five marbles were
picked randomly without replacement in each trial. The experiment were repeated for 10 trials and
were record into table 1 under outcomes. The number of marble picked for five marbles in each trial
were separate into three colours. Then, the probability number of marble picked in each colour were
calculate. Next, the experiment were repeated for another 20 trials with the sample of five marbles in
each trials. Record the number of brown marbles occurred and write it in table 2. Let the random
variable x be the number of brown marble picked. In table 3, the number of brown and green colour
picked were recorded. Lastly, the probability of getting a brown or green marble were calculate.

CHAPTER 2: DATA ANALYSIS

EXPERIMENT 3

Give a group of students a bag of marbles. One partner will pick the marbles to produce good random
trials. The other members will record the results. Ask students to pick marbles in ten trials of five
marbles each pick up without replacement.

f. Observe and record the frequency of each color of marbles and determine how many possible
combinations of colors that can be select.
g. Calculate the probability of randomly pick one marble from each color of marbles.
h. Write the exact sequence color for five marbles picked in ten and for each trial, record the number
marbles selected and write it in Table 1 under “Outcomes” (refer Appendix 3).
i. Redo the same experiment in 20 trials of five marbles picked without replacement. Write the
exact sequence color for marbles picked up in Table 2 under “Outcomes” (refer Appendix 3). For
each trial, record the number of blue marbles occurred and write it in Table 2 (refer Appendix 3).
Let the random variable X be the number of blue marble picked.
j. Based on Table 2 (refer Appendix 3), find the probability of getting BLUE marbles in the first 5
trials, given that RED marbles were obtained.
