1 Name some differences between solid crystal and solid amorphous? (Give examples and
draw the structures)
Solid Crystal Solid Armorphus
True solid Pseudo solid
Rigid Less rigid
Metals, diamond Glasses, polymer

2 Please define all of these terms:

a) Unit cell
The smallest group of atoms of a substance that has the overall symmetry of a crystal of
that substance, and from which the entire lattice can be built up by repetition in three
dimensions.
b) Primitive cell
A unit cell that contains exactly one lattice point and the smallest possible cell.
c) Weigner Seitz (WS)
Primitive cell centered at a lattice point and bounded by planes normal to and bisecting
the lines joining the lattice point to its neighboring points.
d) Bravais Lattice
The regular, periodic configuration of points, particles, or objects throughout an area or
a space, especially the arrangement of ions or molecules in a crystalline solid.

3 Which of the cells in the figure below are primitive?

The yellow cell and pink cell are the primitive cells.

Is there a Wigner- Seitz cell in figure below or not?

No. All the cells are non-Wigner-Seitz.

4 Find the primitive cell and the Weigner- Seitz cell for lattice in the figure below.

5 Draw the Weigner- Seitz cell for all lattices below.
