Topic: the role of geographer to the development of Kigali city.

Kigali city is the one of many cities which is in process of development. In that case, it’s economic system
needs some experts to solve some problems related to development like geographers. Geographers are
scientists deals with the study of the earth. Geographers have recognized the field at which many
contributions can be made through geographic research( L E Guzman,1960). They can make important
contributions to the development of Kigali city in terms of research, urban planning, statistics, and so on
which are discussed in the following ways;

In the role of geographers, there some of them related to geography domain including urban planners,
environmentalists, geologists and geographers in general. Also geographers are utilized to acquire
knowledge to solve some of the social and economic problems facing in Kigali city like mode of housing,
census on land tenure for society and solve problems of how settlements can be on proper site will not
affected by any shocks by using GIS applications( JS Oguntoyindo,1968). However, geographer make a
concept of smart city which provide the solution of making city more efficiently and sustainable and
encouraging reflections, ideas, researches and projects for smart Kigali development. Actually, integrate
different phenomena of development and addressing infrastructural investments which support
economic growth as well as the standard of living of communities, making more careful management of
natural resources, greater transparency and participation to decision making processes which largely
focused on ICTS on Kigali development. They should coordinate urban relate to poverty, pollution,
unemployment, lack of access to goods and services, geographers makes decisions about the use of and
and building in he city and securing conditions to health and high quality of life. Also conducts statistical
information which help government to make proper decisions.

Conclusively, geographer in terms of urban designer, land use planner, etc generally make contributions
to Kigali city development by solving some problems in order to maintain good healthy to communities
and conduct smart city. As seen above, the role of geographer to the development of Kigali city is to
conduct information related to what have planned or urban policies setted and make the proper
decision.
