Conference Co-Chairs’ Biographies


Frank Engli, Senior Advisor, Maintenance & Turnaround, Becht
Frank Engli is a Senior Maintenance and Turnaround Advisor with Becht and resides in Edmonton, Alberta.
Becht is a specialty consulting provider in the energy industry, focused on helping our clients succeed. Becht
engages world class experts in providing multi-disciplinary solutions in engineering and plant services.

Frank has over thirty-eight years of experience working in operation settings at six different sites on project,
maintenance, HSSE and turnaround management and continuous improvement processes in the energy,
refinery, and petrochemical industry. Mr. Engli has engineering and business degrees (BASc, M.Eng and MBA)
and a Six Sigma Black Belt (Lean) skills in solving site problems and a proven track record to implement change
and create sustaining management programs and processes. He is a licensed engineer in provinces of Alberta
and Ontario.

Frank has also built a strong network across North American with external clients, competitors, contractors
and building trades and is a sought as a speaker at Canadian and international turnaround and maintenance
conferences, webinars, and podcasts.

Katie Dempster, Vice President, Business Development, Energy Operations & AECOM
Katie Dempster is the Vice President, Business Development for the Energy Operations & Maintenance
business within AECOM. In this role, Katie leads the overall business development function, working closely
with Operations to develop and implement strategies to win new business and expand market share. Katie
has significant experience and client relationship management skills, working in the Canadian oil and gas
industry for over 13 years. She has led AECOM in executing strategies for portfolio diversification and
expansion as well as client retention and value growth for existing contracts. Katie is agile in her approach to
assessing client needs and understanding what it takes to create a successful outcome for all parties involved.

Speakers’ Biographies
Sean Granville, Senior Vice President, Refurbishment, Ontario Power Generation
Sean Granville is Chief Nuclear Officer (CNO) at OPG. Sean was appointed to this position on May 1, 2018,
after two and a half years as Deputy CNO. Prior to this, Sean spent three years at Point Lepreau Nuclear
Generating Station in New Brunswick as the Site Vice President and CNO. During his tenure with NB Power,
the station achieved improvement as measured by the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) Peer
Review.

Sean's extensive background includes a 35-year career with OPG (and the former Ontario Hydro) holding
positions such as Deputy Vice President, Director of Operations and Maintenance, and Director of Nuclear
Programs. He was certified as a Licenced Shift Manager and has held Duty Manager positions at both
Darlington and Pickering stations. Sean has expertise in areas such as operational leadership, leader
development, performance improvement, organizational effectiveness, and industry engagement.
Sean’s nuclear industry experience also includes a secondment to WANO, serving on the Board of Directors
of the Canadian Nuclear Association, and as a voting member of the Candu Owners Group.
Sean is a graduate of the University of Waterloo with a B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering.

Heather Kleb, Director, Next Generation Nuclear Technology, Bruce Power
Heather Kleb has an MSc, an Executive MBA, and over 20 years of experience working on multi-million dollar
projects in the logging, mining, oil and gas and nuclear industries. Earlier in her career, Heather held a number
of positions with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL), where she worked on the cleanup and long-term
management of historic low-level radioactive waste in Southern Ontario. Prior to joining AECL, she worked
as an environmental consultant, monitoring Luscar Limited's coal mines and conducting environmental
assessments of Weyerhaueser's Forest Management Plans, in Alberta and Saskatchewan. She also worked
overseas as an employee of Anglo American, providing environmental services to AMCOAL, De Beers, and
Anglogold, in South Africa, Botswana and Mali. In recent years, Heather has assumed the positions of Interim
President & CEO and Vice President of the Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA). Heather left the CNA 5 years
ago to pursue an opportunity at Bruce Power, where she is now the Director, Next Generation Nuclear
Technology.

Uwe Velten, Director, Expert Turnaround Management, Global Technology Petrochemicals, BASF
Uwe Velten works currently as Turnaround Director in the global Technology group of BASF’s Petrochemical
Business unit. He is a turnaround / project management expert in complex and high-risk projects such as
large turnarounds, revamps or combined Project / Maintenance Turnarounds.

Uwe governs the overall performance of those turnaround-projects both domestically and internationally to
ensure optimized execution results. For nine years Uwe was guiding abroad Mega-Turnaround projects of
BASF and its Joint Ventures within Europe, North America and China.

As a member of BASF ‘s global turnaround team, he is also involved into BASF ‘s strategic turnaround
decisions. Uwe holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering.

Bob Collins, Senior Economist, BuildForce Canada


Bob Collins is an Economist with BuildForce Canada, formerly the Construction Sector Council, a national
industry-led organization committed to the development of a highly skilled workforce that will support the
future needs of Canada’s construction industry. BuildForce works extensively with provincial committees
comprised of owners, contractors, labour groups, and governments, to ensure the development of reliable
labour demand and supply information that describes current and anticipated market conditions for over 30
construction trades and occupations by province. Bob has over twenty-five (25) years’ experience as a senior
economic consultant with several national consulting firms and for the last 15years he has focused primarily
on tracking construction investment trends and labour market conditions.

Jessica DiSabatino, Vice President, My Safe Work


When Jessica’s brother, David, was killed in a workplace accident in 1999, her world was changed forever.
This tragedy led her to begin advocating for safe workplaces everywhere. With international experience as a
teacher, corporate coach, and motivational speaker, Jessica brings both stories of hope and practical advice

that inspire school and corporate audiences alike. Two years ago Jessica received the Governor General’s
award for her extensive work in health and safety.

Paul Fisher, Turnaround and Maintenance Specialist, Goodridge Turnaround and Maintenance Services
After working in Construction, Maintenance and Turnarounds directly for Industrial Owners in Oil & Gas, Pulp
& Paper, and Mining for 28 years, Paul has recently taken on Turnaround Management for a Mining Company
as a contractor specializing in TA Leadership.

Paul has led and been part of teams that have been model reliability achievers, developed leading edge
maintenance programs, developed and implemented world class maintenance and turnaround work
processes, executed turnarounds of all scale, and most importantly, learned about the elements of human
performance that we need to know to make the next steps in our organizations safe and reliable
performance!

Paul was a 10-year member and Chairperson of the Alberta ROSE Committee, was a board member of
ACTIMS, and was a key leader in Tripartite safety initiatives.

Paul graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
Degree in 1991.

Brent Seewalt, Maintenance Manager, Inter Pipeline


Brent Seewalt is a Maintenance Manager at the Inter Pipeline, Heartland Petrochemical (HPC) facility in Fort
Saskatchewan Alberta. Mr. Seewalt is accountable for Maintenance, project Construction, Turnaround and
Supply Chain Management processes for HPC. Currently he is building the onsite organization and leading
the development of the work processes that will govern the HPC facility.

Mr. Seewalt was the lead author of the Turnaround Process Milestone Plan for Shell Globally in 2017. He
facilitated the TA assurance/readiness process for Upstream assets 2016-19 and assumed various leadership
roles in Turnarounds for 11 years at the Shell Scotford facility. He has planned and executed TA’s in Refineries,
Chemical plants, and Upgrading facilities.

Mr. Seewalt has a background in Maintenance, Projects and Turnaround. Prior to his 17 years with Shell he
was an entrepreneur owning businesses in both British Columbia and Alberta.

Colin Xander, Regional Maintenance Engineering & Overhaul Manager, Lucite International
Colin Xander is the Corporate Turnaround Manager for Chevron Phillips Chemical. Colin has over twenty years
turnaround experience in Chemical Plants, Petrochemical Plants, Paper Mills, Commercial Nuclear Plants, and
onboard US Navy ships in both public and private shipyards. Colin is a veteran of the Calgary conference,
having spoken here for several years.

James Wright, Senior Manager, Capital Procurement, Nutrien


James Wright is a 20-year veteran of Supply Chain Management with experience in Logistics, Manufacturing,
EPC, Power Generation and Chemicals. Currently a Senior Manager of Capital Procurement for Nutrien, (the

largest crop input provider in the world) he leads an international team of procurement and contracting
specialists who support 20 manufacturing facilities in Canada, the US and Trinidad.

James holds: a commerce degree from the University of Lethbridge (1994); a Supply Chain Management
Professional (SCMP) designation from the Supply Chain Management Association of Canada (SCMA); a
Certified Six Sigma Green Belt; the Supplier Relationship Management – Expert (SRME) and the Contract and
Commercial Management Advanced Practitioner (CCMAP) designation s from the International Association
of Contracts & Commercial Management IACCM).

As a proud and passionate advocate of all things SCM, James is frequent speaker and contributor to SCM
conferences and publications in the areas of Negotiation, Contracts, Procurement and SCM as a career path.
He has served as a sessional instructor, in Supply Chain Management, at the University of Alberta, Medicine
Hat College, Grant MacEwan Community College and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.
James is married with three children and resides in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada.

Christina Pitt, Business Development Director, Blackline Safety


With a P.Eng. in Geomatics Engineering, Christina has been with Blackline Safety since 2015, initially as a Sales
Engineer supporting North American and International projects, then progressing to her current role as
Business Development Director covering Western Canada. Prior to Blackline, Christina brings over 13 years’
experience with EPCMs, technology companies and research, covering O&G Construction, Project
Management, Urban Planning & Construction, Radar Mapping, Biomedical and Geomatics.

Teresa Waddington, Asset HSSE Manager, LNG Canada


Teresa joined Shell in 2004 with a degree in Chemical Engineering from Queen’s University, and has worked
in a variety of roles across Projects, Commercial, Development, Maintenance, Operations, and has recently
joined the LNG Canada Project as the Asset HSSE Manager. Teresa, along with her husband and 3 kids, have
recently been on a full circle, 5 year adventure, moving from Calgary to Fort McMurray to Scotland and back
again to Calgary. Teresa has previously sat on the board of directors for the Petroleum Joint Venture
Association and FuseSocial (which seeks to enable and strengthen leadership in the non-profit sector).
Learning is a key theme in Teresa’s life, and she has developed and delivered courses at Mount Royal
University and has an active YouTube Channel where she shares animations on various industry-relevant
topics. Teresa seeks to enable ethical and socially significant energy solutions, while contributing to her
family and her community. Outside of work, Teresa’s an avid cyclist and skier, and loves anything that
involves being outside and active!
