Experiment name: determination of fabric colour fastness against
sea water.

Introduction :
colour fastness tests against sea water are carried out to measure
the resistance of died or printed textile yarns and fabrics to sea water.
during the tests, the colour change of the sample and the staining of
the multi fibre fabric are evaluated.

Objectives :
1- to learn about colour fastness against sea water.
2- to learn about the process to test colour fastness against sea water
.

Atmospheric condition :
according to ISO 139
Temperature : 20 plus minus 2 degree .
relative humidity : 65 + - 2%
Apparatus:
1: perseperimetre
2: oven dryer
3: electronic balance
4: plt metre
5: sewing tools
6: template( 10 centimetre * 4 centimetre )
7: grayscale

Sample preparation:
10 centimeter * 4 centimetre(both test sample and multi fibre fabric) ,
sewing with each face to face, simple should be conditioned 46 hour
or buyer condition .

Methods:
ISO 105E02
Chemicals: sodium chloride, distilled water 1 litre

 ecipe:
R
1: distilled water = 1 litre
2: sodium chloride = 30 gram
3: M:L = 1:50

Working procedure :
1- after prepare the sample, we need to set bath and take
Chemicals as per recipe .
2- then we immersed sample to bath and try to penetrate the sample
by glass rod .
3- after this raised the sample on the immersion for 30 minutes.
4- take out the sample from the solution and extra water of the
sample removed by using glass rod.
5- now set the stitched sample on partsperometre and give the extra
12.5 KPa weight on this .
tight the screw will and remove the weight.
6- now place the perspirometer disturb with the sample into an oven
and set the temperature of 37 degree Celsius for 4 hours.
7- after that take out the sample from oven dryer and remove from
perspirometer .
8- Finally drying a 50 to 60 degree temperature of the sample for
some few minutes.
9- then compare with grayscale to colour change with dyed sample
and compare to grayscale to colour staining for multi fibre.

Visual assessment:

Fastness grade fading change fastness staining of adjacent

fabric

5 no change excellent no staining

4 slight loss good slight staining

3 appreciable loss moderate moderate staining

2 significant loss poor significance training

1 great loss Very poor deep staining

Results :
1- rating for colour change: 2-3 .
2- rating for staining

Fibre rating

acetate 4-5

cotton 4-5

nylon 3-4

polyster 5

acrylic 5
 onclusion ;
C
by doing this experiment, we have learnt about determination of
colour fastness of fabric sample against sea water also learn about
staining of multi fibre fabric.
